Winter break would be unworkable - Douglas

Talking to todays Advertiser, Douglas was sceptical about the idea; "For a start, where do you put it?" he asked, "It's only the last two Decembers which have been bad. You could plan a break in December and when it arrives it could be mild and people would no doubt be asking 'why do we need a winter break?' You could then find yourself trapped in ice in January and February when matches are scheduled."

"Another option would be to leave some Saturdays free in December and January but that would mean the fixture list would end up eating further into May, and do supporters really want that? Also, it would mean having more games on Tuesdays, when attendances are traditionally lower. That would impact on the finances of clubs."

"I really don't think the weather in this country is predictable enough to make a winter break effective," he added.
