However they made heavy weather of the last 20 minutes or so, but were pretty much in control for the majority of the game.

Mark Robins made three changes and switched formation, as Marc Newsham and Ryan Taylor played off target man Derek Holmes in a three man attack.

After a quiet and scrappy opening the Millers began to stamp their authority and ex Millers 'keeper Carl Muggleton in the home goal had to produce smart saves from Holmes and Marc Joseph, whilst Dannty Harrison drilled a low shot just wide.

Danny Sleath had the Stags best first half effort as his drilled 30 yarder whistled over Andy Warrington's cross bar.

Winning goal
Rotherham born midfielder Matty Hamshaw was quiet for the home side who generally offered little threat in the opening 45 minutes.

Four minutes into the second half the Millers reward for their pressure told, as Ian Sharps looped in a header over Muggleton from Steve Brogan's right wing free kick infront of the Millers faithful to break the deadlock.

The big defender then had another effort blocked, and as Mark Robins introduced Andy Todd and Sam Duncum, the latter wasted a great opportunity to make it two as he bared down on Muggleton's goal but his indecision cost him and the attack was snuffed out.

Sharps went off with a knock with 20 minutes remaining as Paul Hurst finished the game at centre back, and despite a flurry of corners and a header just wide from home skipper Jake Buxton, the Millers held on for their spot in the draw for the second round.
