Robbo looks to next season

After seeing Ryan Taylor sign a new 2 year contract today, gaffer Mark Robins spoke to Footy Heaven

"Youth is important to the club and we have to invest in youth, the two boys particulary Stephen Brogan has done very well since he come in, obviously hes got a lot to learn but he's going about it the right way. Ryan Taylor's a different kettle of fish, he has a hell of a lot of potential, but he's just been hampered this season with injury and illness. I've given him the opportunity to come back in next season as he has a hell of a lot of potential and hopefully he'll have an injury and illness free season."
"The 2 lads are integral parts of the squad, we've got to have youth mixed with some older heads and some lads that have been there and done it, we've got to work hard this summer and recruit. We're talking to some people and encouraging them to come to us."

"I've had an initial conversation with Eugen (Bopp) to sort of check up on his injury because hes had a fairly bad injury there, and he's likely to make a full recovery and we'll keep in touch and he is quite interested in coming back. But these lads that are out of contract obviously may keep their options open."

Robbo was asked wether the players he had spoke to were intrested with the Millers terms, "well we've not got down to those details as yet, but obviously we've have a budget and we'll try to suit it to our requirements, theres one or two key areas that need filling and we'll be looking at those and addressing that when the seasons finished." he said.

He was then asked if he was happy with his reduced budget for next seasons squad, "I think you are never happy with what you've got, I think your always looking for more but needs must and we've got to cut our cloth accordingly."

"We're aware of the situation at the club and people are working very hard to rectify that and try to keep the club on an even footing, I've got a responsibility to make sure we keep the club on an even keel and make it stronger, thats the importance of the grass roots. We're adressing that and looking for somebody to come in and head the youths which is a priority and once we've done that we can sit down and plan our strategy for the future."

Mark then touched on his dissapointment of last Saturdays defeat in the final home game of the season, and this weekends season finale at Bristol City.
"I felt that we're coming to the end of the season and that was the final home game and it was dissapointing. We've just been relegated so you dont expect me to be walking around with my head held high. I've come in at the end but it's still not a nice feeling, I was relegated once as a player and its not nice."

"Saturday is a big game and an important one for a number of teams, not least ourselves. We've got to go out and put a performance on. We want to upset the apple cart and dont want to go down there and attend the party. We dont want to be there and them get promotion as it's not nice being at someone else's party."

"We'll focus and re-double our efforts and try to build a squad thats capable of challenging next season to come straight back, you know its going to take a while and we're going to need time but the supporters can be assured that we're working our socks off to get things right."

Asked about wether the club are any closer to getting Robbo his assistant, he kept coy but said; "We're fairly close, keep your ear to the ground on that one, hopefully we'll be able to say something next week."
