Millersmad To Wear Number 84

The best Rotherham United site around (that’s us) will wear the inaugural 84 shirt and be available for selection by Mick Harford in any competition for the rest of the season.

Venue
The auction was held at the Tivoli last night in aid to raise vital cash for the building of the new stand the memorabilia consisted mainly of items from the old main stand but also consisted of old signed shirts, team sheets and hospitality packages. Representing the site at the auction was Big Rich and he held his nerve in a tense bid and captured the squad number, paying out £300 in monies raised by you the users, just for coming on to the site.

The amount that we contributed to a total of £3919 raised for the new stand was the fourth highest individual bid. The item that raised the highest amount of cash was number 26 in the lot, which was the chance to be mascot for the opening of the new stand and includes extras such as a medal and photos with the first team squad. That went for a staggering £405. A signed shirt as worn by Rodney Fern in the 6-0 victory over Chelsea and brought in a welcome £360 and the Wall Of Fame from the old stand which included signatures from Ronnie Moore, Gianlucca Vialli, Harry Redknapp, Teddy Sheringham, Gordon Strachan and Jonathan Veal fetched in £305. It is thought the wall may have fetched in up to a grand had Strachan’s signature not been on it.

Illustrious company
The amount that fetched the least amount of money was the book on the Polish Millers, which was sold for £23. There were a few quirky people there with a fetish for daft memorabilia as the “Welcome to Millmoor” shield from the tunnel, which was allegedly touched before every game for good luck raised £255 and the sign for the Vice Presidents Box was bought for £25.

The directors of Rotherham United are said to be delighted with monies raised and thank everyone who bought an item. Millersmad would also like to take this opportunity to thank you guys for repeatedly coming back to the site and help raising money, which enabled us to help the club by buying the squad number. When somebody asks you “What have you done today to make you feel proud”, you can say, I logged in to Millersmad!!
