Millers Aim To Continue Good Oakwell Form

The Millers are unbeaten in they’re last two games at the home of Barnsley and will be buoyed by the Tykes’ poor run in South Yorkshire derbies. Rotherham last visited Oakwell in a pre-season friendly last summer and were 1-0 victors thanks to a well worked Michael Proctor goal.

Prior to that, Mick Harford’s men put on a spiriting display on an August Bank Holiday back in 2001 when both teams were playing in Division One. Rotherham controlled the majority of the game and took the lead through Mark Robins. They had chances to increase their lead but were eventually denied their first win of the season when Bruce Dyer headed a late equaliser.

The Millers will also take heart from the League Cup visit in the 00/01 promotion season as trailing 1-0 from the first leg they gave Barnsley a real scare, at one point winning 2-1 but before ultimately going down 3-2.

In a current run of 12 games without a win, Rotherham will be looking for all the omens available and will be boosted by Barnsley’s bad record in local derbies. Their 1-0 win at Millmoor is the only time they have beaten a South Yorkshire team in 13 attempts since December 2001 when they beat Sheffield Wednesday 3-0.

Rotherham will also be boosted by the arrival of Paul Evans who has come on loan from Nottingham Forest and apart from Michael Keane, Mick Harford has a full squad to choose from. Despite increasing pressure on his position and speculation that defeat in this match could spell the end of his seven month tenure at Rotherham, Harford is trying to remain positive. “I still feel we have the players who can help us to climb the table and end the poor run we have been experiencing. We showed early in the season what we are capable of and we have to rediscover that form to end this poor run. I still believe in myself and I believe in the players and we all want to bring success to the club so the sooner we get back to winning ways the better.” he told the club’s official website.

Millersmad Prediction: 1-1
