Hard to leave club I love - Breckin

Last updated : 10 September 2009 By Bigrich.....
Breckin who has spent the majority of his career with the Millers as both player and assistant manager left to join Mark Robins at Barnsley this week, and speaking to todays Star he explaines why.

"It was a really hard decision to leave the club I love, the one I joined straight from school and where I had worked for so many years albeit with some breaks in there," said John.

"But I had an unbelievable working relationship with Mark and this was an opportunity both to continue that relationship and the opportunity to work in the Championship again because I loved it last time. I had to take off my Millers hat when the time came and it was a really hard decision - Rotherham have a great chairman, he's forward thinking and I really do hope they go on and have a lot of success."

"But Mark said that he wanted me to work with him; he brought me back to Rotherham, he helped me through a very difficult and traumatic time in my personal life and we forged a bond, I know his little foibles, I can work with him and it was a great opportunity."

"We got on great from that first meeting, always worked well and we have done so ever since and that relationship is a key factor in this decision," added Breckin.

Breck was asked if he would return to Rotherham to work with Ronnie Moore should he get the managers job; "It is a different relationship with Ronnie, we were more like brothers. I don't know what's going to happen there and it could have been that I'd have turned down the Barnsley chance, stayed on at Rotherham and then they'd appointed someone who didn't want me or, perhaps, we didn't get on."
