Moulin Rouge: Port Vale (League Cup) Match Review

Well I was given a win with a dire performance! Ok, so it wasn’t as bad as that but no way was our performance tonight as fluent or as creative as against Bradford yet we scored three goals. I know this was a cup game but if Vale are an example of an average League One team then we should have no problems in this league. That said our performance was horrendous in the first half and we let a neat and tidy Port Vale team dominate only threatening the Derek Dalton clock with our long range shooting. Finally with what seemed like our first decent move we scored. A nice interchange of passes down the right saw an opposition defender volley home in to his own net superbly. Not long til half time we thought, great time to score. Not a great time to concede though and that’s what we did ourselves after some utterly shambolic defending!

The second half was something of a different story and although never reaching the heights of the Bradford game we bossed the half and scored two classic goals. It was nice to finally get the goals that a period of pressure warranted. Port Vale ended up with 9 men due to injuries and offered very little and it was comforting that we swept aside a team that my preconceived ideas matched us very close to with such ease. Finally Mick has got a home win. All we need now is one on a Saturday afternoon and then we can all die happy
