Watford - 20Questions pt 2

Who are you; where are you from and how long have you supported your club?

My name is Paul Wilson and I live in Hemel Hempstead. I am 18 and have been attending Watford games for about 11 years, 6 of those as a season ticket holder.

What was your first game?
It was a 0-0 draw against Sheffield United in a Division 1 game 11 years ago.

Describe the most memorable and worst game you've seen and why?
The 1998/99 Play Off Final win at Wembley would have to be the most memorable, beating Bolton 2-0. It was an incredible occasion. The colour and noise were awesome and we capped it off with a fine win and two crakcing goals from Nick Wright and Allan Smart. One of the worst games was a 5-1 home defeat to Palace last year. We were at fault for most of the goals and were 3-0 down and down to 10 men at half time. It was a total humiliation, although we made a good go of things in the second half. The recent 2-0 defeats against Forest and Preston were also dreadful. We barely managed a shot on target ad the ground was emptying long before full time in both games. These performances cost Ray his job.

If Watford was a Celebrity, who would it be and why?
Prince Charles. Ugly, unpopular and living off the successes of a long forgotten era.

Who do you consider as your current local rivals, and why?
Luton 'the scum' Town of course, although we haven't played them in the League for 7 years. If we stay up then we will finally get a chance to avenge the home League Cup defeat from a few seasons' back. Their ground is shocking and they are supported by a bunch of thugs who always start trouble.

Who are the best and worst players you have seen?
From the Championship this year, the best would have to be Kris Commons and Steve Sidwell. Neil Sullivan made some fantastic saves against us last weekend though. Lee McCulloch at Wigan always scores against us as well. Steven Gerrard was quality against us when we played Liverpool and scored the important goals. The worst would be the Crewe 'keeper Clayton Ince. He is poor.

Which current or former Rotherham player impressed you most?
Mike Pollitt is a sound keeper, and Darren Byfield was a tricky player. But normally it's your defenders that score against us!

So what do you think of The Millers?
You seem to be improving at the moment, although it's come too late to keep you up. You seem to lack a decent centre forward and midfield, but your defence is always pretty solid.

How did you fare last season?
We started really badly after the death of Jimmy Davis, but we picked it up at the end and finished 18th.

How did you expect to fair this season?
We were realistic and hoped for a solid mid-table position really, but aimed for a top half finish.

It's looking a bit dodgy for you after a decent start, whats happened?
We've lost experienced players, such as Dyche and Devlin, to injury, whilst key players Webber and Ardley lost their form, and have recently left the club. We have a lot of old and a lot of young players but not enough in their prime.

Was the change of manager the right thing to do?
If we stay up, then yes, if not, then no, in all honesty. People were getting a bit fed up of the team's poor performances and results and Ray's repetitive excuses, but he did very well for us during a very difficult time, so he deserves a lot of credit. The new manager seems alright, but only time will tell. It is a gamble though.

Was Vanezza any good for you at all? I've seen nothing from him to prove his worth!
He started pretty well when we first signed him. He was good under Taylor and Vialli, but a while back he was stabbed in a robbery and never really recovered his confidence or form. He was not a great goal contributor, but he did simple things well and, on his day, was very classy.

Is your manager barking mad?
No, not really. I just think he's a confident and positive guy, a bit like Mourinho. He knows what he wants and is a bit more aggressive than Lewington.

Are you happy with your Chairman/Backroom staff?
The backroom coaching staff have just been reshuffled, but I think most fans are happy enough with them. There are some serious question marks about the Chairman and the new baord memebers Jimmy and Vince Russo at the moment after some recent big changes and strange decisions, such as the departure of 4 players just before and on deadline day when we didn't even have a manager in place.

Which team do you want to beat the most this season and why?
West Ham at home on the final day. That could keep us up and keep them out of the play-offs. It would be nice to finish on a high, and they are an arrogant bunch as well.

What sort of line-up can we expect from you?
Probably a traditional 4-4-2 including 40 year old 'keeper Alec Chamberlain making his first League start of the season following a knee injury to Richard Lee in training this week.

Predicted score?
2-1 Watford

Who's going up?
Sunderland, Wigan, Ipswich

Who's going down?
Rotherham, Forest, Brighton

Best of luck for next season and beyond, but we really need the win on Saurday. You could do us a massive favour by beating Brighton in a couple of weeks' time though.
