Chesterfield's 20 Questions

Last updated : 23 August 2004 By Bigrich.....
Who are you; where are you from and how long have you supported your club?
My name is Paul Fisher I'm 29 and I live in Newcastle and I've supported Chesterfield for 24 years.

What was your first game?
It was the 79/80 season and it was versus Exeter and we won 3-0 me and our kid were only young un's so it's a little difficult to remember what went off.

Describe the most memorable and worst game you've seen and why?
The most memorable game I've seen for Chesterfield is the FA Cup Semi Final v Middlesbrough the 3-3 not the replay for obvious reasons. I travelled down with a load of Boro fans and on the way back was quite amusing as you should have seen the look on their faces.
The worst game was probably Macclesfield away in about 1992 in the FA Cup it was 0-0 and it was bloody freezing it snowed all the way through and we lost the replay on penalties.

Who do you consider as your current local rivals, and why?
Local Rivals are Mansfield Town mostly although we are struggling to play them on a regular basis at the moment this because they are crap! And we all want to beat Sheffield Utd and Wednesday don't we!!

Who are the best and worst players you have seen?
The best player I've seen is Kevin Davies someone who developed at you're own club has to be I think.

The worst player was probably Jason Lee (our club record signing) he got sent off more times than he scored.

Which current or former Rotherham player impressed you most?
Living up in the north east I saw a lot of Michael Proctor and I was very impressed by him I was surprised when they let him go. I thought that Shaun Goater was always a top player for you in the past as well.

How did you fare last season?
We nearly got relegated 88th minute winner versus Luton coupled with wins for Tranmere and Port Vale against our rivals for the drop helped us stay up by the skin of our teeths. Overall though we played some decent stuff at times but we defensive errors at times that cost us.

How do you think you'll do this season?
Well we've started off great with only a small squad we may struggle later but for now I'd be really happy with a mid-table finish (yawn)!

What's the local drink and snap?
Alcohol i'm sure you've heard of it comes in many forms! I'm sure I've got a half eaten cheese sandwich for you somewhere.

If Chesterfield were a TV personality, who would it be and why?
Claude Greengrass (Heartbeat) very shabby on the outside heart of gold in the middle.

So what do you think of Rotherham?
I've always liked Rotherham I don't know why I guess a mutual joke at our "big" city rivals may be the clue.

Is your manager barking mad?
No not really always plays with a straight bat actually very boring at times doesn't give good soundbite but his teams not bad to watch.

Are you happy with your Chairman/Backroom staff?
I'm happy that the Supporters Society own the club we don't really have a Chairman as such we have a seperate board that runs the day to day stuff at Saltergate. This is because the supporters society don't have sufficient funds to run the club on this basis but it's the majority shareholder. (and thank god because I wouldn't be writing this now)

Which team do you want to beat the most this season and why?
I want to beat Sheffield Wednesday this season home and away I don't really need to tell you why surely.

What sort of line-up can we expect from you?
4-4-2 that's what we normally play, watch out for our Congolese striker T'cham N'toya can't understand a word of english but knows where the back of the net is!

Predicted score?
I reckon that we will win as usually we do against you chaps. 1-0.

Who's going up?
In our division probably Hull City,Hartlepool and maybe Barnsley or Sheffield Wednesday.

Who's going down?
Not us. Torquay MK Dons Wrexham and Bradford.

All the best for the coming season (except tomorrow) and I hope that we can play you in the "championship" next season.
