Speaking to Radio Sheffield after the game, Harford said, "I can't fault the workrate or the ethics that we showed there, we worked tremendously hard. They've come up against a great outfit today, Preston had a way about them, they looked very strong and they carry on doing that they have a great opportunity to get in the premier league."

The Millers led at half time due to a goal from Will Hoskins that the keeper flapped at and ended up in the net. "I thought we were fortunate to go in 1 up at half time, I'll be honest. Second half we were always under pressure, they're a good team."

"The players want to learn and we want to educate them and make them better players, but it was disappointing to lose my first game, as it is any game. But give credit to Preston they came here and set thier stall out and played very well."

Harford was asked about the Millers poor second half display, "Your always concerned when you get beat, I told that to the lads in the dressing room, we didnt create a lot and we never threatened their goal in the second half so that is a concern yes. But its not all about having shots on goal, its about clean sheets and doing the right things on the pitch and getting the nuts and bolts of the football right, but we'll work on that."

"Its been a traumatic season for the football club, and it was a tough game and we played a tough team today, it showed the commitment of a lot of players as they did get the blocks in, and they did get a lot of challenges in, but we'll carry on and keep battling away."

Commenting on his experience of leading a team, Harford said: "I thoroughly enjoyed it, its good to be in charge and its good to be involved when there's something that on it, and 3 points was on it today. Those three points are more important than anything to anyone involved in football!"

When asked if the size of the task at Rotherham had changed after seeing the squad perform for 24 hours, Harford Commented: "I knew it was a hard task to come into Rotherham and hopefully turn it round. I've got a lot of faith in my ability, and I'm going to put a lot of faith in the staff and I'm hoping the supporters and players will get behind us. We've got to believe we can do well and I will give 100% effort to try and turn things around. I've got the games left this season and we've got pre-season to get ourselves organised and hopefully re-structure the club."

"You're always look to improve your team and you're squad, and thats what i'll be looking to do".
