I could swear - Hamshaw

“I just felt, through different things within the game, the players kind of went off the game plan a bit and that’s frustrating.

“We got a message back on, starting doing it, had two really good opportunities, and then [we’re] naive defensively and that’s what I’m frustrated around. We have got young defenders, of course we have, but we need to learn and learn quicker.”

A corner delivery was bounced around the box before Forino was allowed to prod home Bolton’s first of the afternoon.

Hamshaw said: “We should be either putting it in the stands or we should be more aggressive and that’s the frustration.

“I could swear. People know about set-pieces, first contact is unacceptable at any level. It wasn’t only that, it was the body language and demeanour of the players who were in and around that battle. That’s what winds me up.

“If they’d had a great team goal and opened us up, I say it all the time, that’s the game of football. But when it’s goals like we’re conceding, that’s not good enough.

“It’s weird really because we’ve looked defensively resolute in the recent weeks and probably not as much of a goal threat as I’d like. And then today, I don’t what our xG is, but I felt we had good opportunities.”

He said: “It’s going to get nervous. The fans are going to be edgy. I understand it’s been horrific here for the last three years, since Paul [Warne], Richie [Barker] and myself left.

“We've kind of had days where we've got back to that, but not enough days, so I understand the frustration.

“It's just really hard when you've got young players and they're coming on and some of the things that are getting said to them before they're coming on, and they're coming off, and it's a bit...

“It's not everybody, it's never everybody, but we need to stay in this together. The lads are giving us everything.

“Look, the bits I'm talking about are technical quality. You can't fault their effort, enthusiasm and endeavour, but if everybody had that, everyone would be a professional football, wouldn't they?”
