Rotherham United grabbed an impressive win to finally kill off the threat of relegation with a game to spare.

The victory, plus results from elsewhere, was enough to clear away any lingering doubts at Millmoor where fans are guaranteed a fourth season of first division football against the odds.

Clattered when scoring Millers first
Martin Butler grabbed his 15th of the season and Robbie Stockdale claimed his first for the club since he arrived on loan from Middlesbrough.

Rotherham were snapping at Burnley from the start and Michael Proctor's early effort hit a defender.

But after 16 minutes Butler gave Rotherham the lead. Chris Sedgwick picked out Proctor on the right and his crossfield pass caught out Burnley.

Butler cleverly ghosted in as David May dithered and hoisted his shot over Brian Jensen, but the Danish keeper cynically continued his run and flattened the Rotherham striker.

After he recovered Butler might have added a second when another spell of pressure gave the home side a corner. Chris Swailes headed on the cross from Jody Morris but Jensen blocked Butler's close-range shot.

In the 29th minute Butler, still nursing a dead leg from the Jensen body-check, was substituted.

Burnley broke out looking for the equaliser with Lee Roche firing wide and Robbie Blake going close with a deflected shot.

But six minutes before half-time a finely crafted move extended the lead for the home side.

Sedgwick's clever footwork created space and his neat pass found Stockdale who raced into the area and lifted the ball over Jensen as he came out.

Proctor came close to a third goal in the 61st minute but his angled effort was well saved after a sizzling run down the right.

Sealed win with 85th min Penalty
The closest Burnley came to hitting back was when Luke Chadwick's 70th minute shot was deflected but Mike Pollitt saved well.

Rotherham sealed a comprehensive win when Proctor scored from the penalty spot five minutes from the end after Graham Branch handled in the area.
