Dad Ronnie, the Rotherham manager, had to settle for a point as son Ian also picked up a point with his Burnley side.

Burnley lost striker Gareth Taylor in a bizarre start to the match after he went down injured after just ten seconds.

Taylor crashed into Rotherham defender Martin McIntosh and was stretchered of – and to make matters worse he was shown the yellow card for his foul on McIntosh.

Scoring chances were few and far between in a tight first half, although Ian Moore went close for the visitors.

But Rotherham had the lion's share of possession and opened up the Burnley defence in the 11th minute with a slick move involving Andy Monkhouse and Richie Barker, before Alan Lee was halted as he tried to slide in a close-range shot.

The home side were close to breaking the early deadlock again when a cross from Rob Scott was headed across by Lee, but Barker's resulting diving header went over.

And before the break substitute Marvin Bryan, on for the injured Rob Scott, tested keeper Marlon Beresford with a stinging low shot.

Burnley created a handful of chances early in the second half as Robbie Blake's trickery caused problems for the Millers.

Five minutes after the re-start Blake twisted and turned and his deflected shot had Mike Pollitt scrambling the ball away and Paul Weller could only guide the rebound out off his thigh.

Blake was again dangerous as he opened up the home defence, before Lee Briscoe stabbed a shot wide of the keeper only to see it strike the foot of the post.

But neither side was able to break the deadlock.
