Rotherham made an impressive start and came close to a goal in the first minute. Derek Holmes headed the ball down into the path of new loan signing Bruce Dyer but the experienced striker was hustled off the ball.

However, the home side broke the deadlock after seven minutes when midfielder Peter Holmes claimed his first goal for the club since his summer arrival from Luton.

Dyer found Marcus Bean and his inviting pass found Peter Holmes who sized up the situation quickly and lashed a fierce low shot wide of Kevin Pilkington's dive.

But from the restart County might have levelled when they burst forward and Spencer Weir-Daley tested Millers keeper Andy Warrington who beat away the shot and Danny Harrison cleared smartly.

Another break forward handed Rotherham an opportunity and Stephen Brogan cut into the box but his left-foot shot was blocked by the alert Lee Canoville.

Veteran striker Jason Lee - still looking for his first goal of the season - tried an overhead kick from 12 yards but it was easily save by Warrington.

The Rotherham keeper had to be alert when danger-man Weir-Daley spotted another gap and drilled in an angled shot but Warrington was well-placed to save.

In a lively first half Andy Todd collected a superb cross-field pass from skipper Graham Coughlan but saw his low shot turned away by Pilkington.

However, nine minutes before half-time County hit back with a deserved equaliser. Defender Dale Tonge slipped as he tried to clear a dangerous ball and Marc Joseph darted in to challenge Lawrie Dudfield.

The ball cannoned forward to Weir-Daley who slammed in his shot with Rotherham appealing for offside.

Weir-Daley had two more chances before the break as County carved out more opportunities but his first was well-saved by Warrington and the second was straight at the keeper.

Rotherham striker Derek Holmes should have done better when a chance came his way early in the second half but he dragged his shot wide and County's Steve Hunt almost directed the ball into his own net.

Harrison found some space and crashed a fierce shot from distance but Pilkington had a good look at the shot and turned it over.

Weir-Daley then saw a glorious chance for a winner go begging after 78 minutes when he twisted and turned in the area but blew the opportunity.
