Crewe Alex 2-3 Rotherham United

Goals from Kevin Ellison, an Adam Le Fondre spot kick and Drewe Broughton saw the Millers bounce back from their midweek blip at Northampton as new manager Ronnie Moore sealed his first three points.

In a game which ebbed and flowed despite their bright start the visitors fell behind on six minutes when midfielder Steve Schumacher tapped home Joel Grant's centre after some slack marking.

United responded though just nine minutes later with a freak goal from winger Kevin Ellison, as his right wing corner curled into the net at the back post, assisted by the strong wind.

As both teams struggled a touch to keep the ball on the deck, not for the want of trying, Calvin Zola was the Alex's biggest threat, and tested Andy Warrington on 28 minutes.

Crewe again countered moments later but Grant shot well over from just inside the area on the angle.

Zola had his say though as he got on the scoresheet six minutes after the break, capitalising on a horror slip by Nick Fenton to run onto Shaun Miller's through ball and slide past Warrington.

But their lead again lasted only a few minutes, as hotshot Le Fondre raced into the area and was clattered from behind by Harry Worley. He dusted himself down to tuck away his second penalty of the week.

And sub Broiughton, on his first appearance of the season hooked home a loose ball just five minutes from time to snatch the points.
