Disappointing Coventry were held to a goalless draw by Championship strugglers Rotherham, who remain without a win this season.

City lacked urgency and were made to look very ordinary in a hugely forgettable encounter.

By the end of the game it was Rotherham who looked more likely to take all three points, particularly after a string of efforts from Chris Sedgwick.

Graham Barrett started brightly for Coventry and hit his side's first effort with a low shot after two minutes.

The Millers' Michael Proctor looked to have beaten Luke Steele with a 35-yard effort but it flew wide of the post.

Michael Doyle worked hard at the by-line to get a cross over, but it deflected off the shin of a defender and onto the bar with Graham Barrett and Stern John steaming in below.

The game livened up after the break and both sides went close with a series of headers from their strikers.

Excellent game
First John broke the offside trap to meet Barrett's cross but fired his header straight at Mike Pollitt, then Andy Morrell leapt well but headed Louis Carey's cross narrowly wide.

Rotherham went close at the other end minutes later, with a Richie Barker header from a Chris Sedgwick cross, before John headed over once more for Coventry.

Matthew Mills, signed hours before kick-off on loan from Southampton, nearly marked his debut for the Sky Blues with a spectacular goal from 35 yards, but Pollitt dived well to save.

Coventry upped the tempo and created several chances, but first John then Steve Staunton were thwarted by Pollitt who had an excellent game.

Peter Reid threw Patrick Suffo on in a bid to change things but, even with three strikers, Coventry lacked a cutting edge and slumped to a lacklustre draw.
