Accrington Stanley 2-1 Millers

Last updated : 17 March 2010 By Deano

After a very poor first half which could have seen Rotherham well and truly on their backsides, the Millers dominated after the interval only to see their efforts go unrewarded.

The home side started the brighter and in a lively affair knocked the ball around neatly. Billy Kee was the first to test Andy Warrington, but his shot was dealt with comfortably.

Michael Symes gave the hosts a deserved lead on 18 minutes, as he clipped in Jimmy Ryan's right wing cross unmarked at the near post.

John Miles and Tom Lees were next to test Warrington as the Milers failed to get any footing in proceedings.

Miles then had a shot blocked on the line by Danny Harrison whilst Warrington was at his best to tip away a Luke Joyce curler for a corner at full stretch.

Just before the break Marc Joseph had an effort scrambled clear from Kevin Ellison's corner but in truth Rotherham were thankful for the half time whistle.

It was a different story after the break however, as the Millers began to get the ball down and play. Adam Le Fondre twice tested 'keeper Dean Bouzanis before Josh Walker smashed in the equaliser from 25 yards with a rasping left footed drive on 55 minutes after a jinking run.

In what was fast becoming one way traffic, Ian Sharps rose highest to head inches past the post from Marcus Marshall's centre shortly after.

Le Fondre then somehow blazed over the top after escaping the challenge of Phil Edwards, and the Millers top marksman neatly set up Ellison with a backflick in the box but the winger's goalbound shot was blocked brilliantly by Bouzanis with his legs.

The Millers thought they'd nudged infront when Le Fondre's left foot shot hit a post and Craig McAllister tucked in the rebound, but after consultaion with his linesman the referee ruled the goal out for offside despite an Accrington head flicking the ball into Le Fondre's path.

And after all the Millers dominance it was the home side who nicked the points with nine minutes left, as Ryan finished off Dean Winnard's pass to leave the Millers spewing over missed chances.
