Internet Millers: Worldnet 2006 Draw

Last updated : 30 May 2006 By Millersmad Staff
The Millers were pulled out in Group 6 of the 64 team tournament and will face Doncaster Rovers, Port Vale and Celtic with a top two finish ensuring them a place in the second round. With the league as good as wrapped up, IMFC will be favourites to progress through their group. However, they will have to be wary as a 9:00am start against Doncaster Rovers, who notoriously bring a much stronger sqaud for Worldnet could prove tricky and they have played neither Celtic or Port Vale before.

Rotherham famously caused a surprise last year by winning the competition by way of a Golden Goal in the final against QPR and with their name already engraved on the trophy and with a successful league campaign, there looks likely to be a different emphasis placed on this year's tournament that will serve as a finale to a successful era as several key personnel are hanging up their IFA boots. "From a purely personal point of view I'm looking forward to Worldnet as my last IMFC duties and am going to concentrate on getting fitter again this year so I can play to the best of my ability. Our finishing position is secondary to having a really good time in what is a new venue for us in the centre of Leeds." said team manager and top goalscorer Steve Burns.

With it being an open draw, there was inevitably a 'group of death', which Rotherham should be pleased they avoided. Group 10 sees Inter Milan, Man Utd, QPR and West Ham thrown together in what will see at least one potential winner eliminated from the competition. With QPR, one of the most successful IFA teams ever and the huge fanbases of Inter and Man Utd along with a fast improving West Ham side, this group will definitely have everybody interested.

Worldnet takes place on 22-23 July at Boddington Hall in Leeds, with the final of the IFA Cup, where the Millers lost in the semi-final, taking place on the Friday Night.
