Internet Millers vs Scunthorpe Review

Our squad was decimated for this game through injury and illness so we did well to get an XI out. The gale force conditions made the game very difficult and pretty much unplayable really. It gets to a stage where if someone is having to hold the ball at dead ball situations then you just have to say thanks for coming lads, lets call it a day and head to the pub. But we didn’t, we played on. We found ourselves very much up against it as we were playing against the swirling wind and we struggled to get out of our own half.

Things got even worse for us when Sharky decided the best course of action to thwart the onrushing Scunthorpe striker was to come out with his feet instead of his hands. No surprise then when he was carted off to Rotherham District General with a leg injury leaving us to put Duds in the net who was still 3/4’s lashed and stoned from the night before. Amazingly with the 100 mph winds and a patched up team we only conceded one goal and even that had a humongous pong of offside.

We really fancied our chances of giving Scunthorpe a work over with the wind at our backs and we had plenty of possession. However, with key attacking players injured or out of position we struggled to break Scunthorpe down, with the wind causing havoc with any forward balls or crosses. We did eventually get level as Grist knocked a high ball in to the net on the goal line with the away team claiming the ball had swirled out of play. We then went on to bombard their goal with attack after attack but we couldn’t find that break through, with the wind proving just too much of a menace. A draw a fair result.
