Starting Formation and Tactics

The Internet Millers played a 352 throughout the entire game. Shark commanding in net with Denti sweeping behind fellow centre backs Dave and Mark. Dan held the anchor role in midfield alongside Steve R, giving Gav his first run out for IM for a few months just in behind the front two. Out wide Andy P protected the left wing back and after a run of strong sub performances John2 got a start out at right wing back. Duds was a late addition to the squad and due to a lack of numbers for the opposition he had a chance to show his midfield skills in a rather skin tight Italian shirt, playing for Rotherham Athletic.

First Half

The first half was pretty much all Internet Millers. Symon missed a couple of good early chances but the breakthrough came for the Millers after about 10 minutes. A cutting pass by Dan in midfield released Jebu to chase towards the keeper, at full pace he slipped past the keeper and struck hard past the defender on the line to give the IM a 1 nil lead.

The Internet Millers then had a large number of chances, with Symon, Gav and Andy P all coming close. Then an incredible 10 seconds of play saw Jebu hit a 25 yard shot that hit the left upright of the goal with the keeper stranded. The rebound went out wide to John 2 who instantly chipped a ball to Jebu on the right hand corner of the penalty area. Jebu hit a stinging volley that rocketed off the underside of the right upright of the goal! All within 10 seconds both uprights were hit but the score remained 1:0 to the Millers.

However, not soon after the Millers made it 2:0 with Jebu notching another goal. Symon did well to rob the full back near the corner flag. With the defenders napping Jebu lost his marker to get on the end of a Symon cross and smash into the corner of an empty net.

The Internet Millers then had an host of half chances with the best falling to Symon on the edge of the box that he drove just wide. However, the ball didn’t go into the net and on the stroke of half time a defensive error where lack of communication meant no one clearing the ball allowed “Judas” Duds to play a lovely cutting ball to the oppositions strikers who paced on and slotted past Shark.

It was disappointing to be just 2-1 up at half time after dominating just about the entire game.

Second Half

The second half saw a fired up Internet Millers make an host of changes but keep the 352 formation. Skip rang the changes throughout the game and kept the Millers organised when it would have been easy to get sloppy and disorganised.

Within 5 minutes Jebu notched his hatrick in the best goal of the day. After being just caught offside a couple of occasions after the break Jebu timed a run perfectly onto a Steve R pass and from the edge of the box smashed the ball into the top corner of the net to make it 3:1.

These settled the Millers and for the next 15 minutes they carved open a host of other chances. Symon shot wide from close range and a good burst into the box by Gav saw his effort just pushed wide. The Millers did make it 4:1 with another simple pass through the middle of the defence from Steve R allowing Jebu to race to the keeper and hit the ball hard and low through his legs for his 4th of the day.

Just 5 minutes afterwards Gav went on sparkling run after being fed down the line by Jonny. Eventually the last defender pulled down Gav for a stone wall penalty. The ball was thrown to Symon who got his name on the score sheet to make it 5:1.

Lots more changes in the latter stages of the second half saw Jebu come off the pitch for John2 to have a run up front. Aggie and Steve R also helped out a tired Rotherham Athletic. For the Millers Dan was a rock in the front of the back 4 with endless running and ultimately it was too much for Rotherham Athletic to get past and the game ended 5:1.

Post Match Comments

It was rather disappointing that Rotherham Athletic couldn’t get their full side out as in the end it was an easy win for the Millers despite only going in at half time 2-1 up. Roth Athletic had a couple of strong quality players but overall the Millers dominated in all positions. However, it was a great chance to see Gav back in a Millers shirt and 4 well taken goals by Jebu in a game where the IM were missing last seasons leading scorer Burns was a good confidence boost.

The only disappointment was not getting a clean sheet with one lapse of concentration before half time. However, 8 straight wins for IM and we continue on the season full of confidence.
