Internet Millers Vs Hull Preview

Last updated : 16 December 2005 By Stevelmu09

IMFC have a good home record against Hull but they remain a team that have consistently taken points off us in the past. Therefore, this will probably be our toughest test since the Forest game.

Vs: Hull City IFA

Location: Herringthorpe Playing Fields

Kick Off: 10:30

Meet: 9:45

Kit: Home (red)

A comprehensive 10-2 victory against Leicester in the last match boosted IMFC goal difference but did put an end to the sequence of clean sheets. However, the defence need not worry too much as both goals were made and finished by IMFC players who swapped shirts to help out a tiring Leicester squad that was already low on numbers!

Some of the football in the opening 30 minutes of the Leicester game was fantastic and IMFC will be looking to recreate that cutting edge and defensive solidarity throughout the full 90 minutes against a determined Hull side. A number of Hull's best players lie in the defence or defensive midfield so it will be a challenge to break them down early in the game.

Our past record against
Hull is patchy. There have been 6 games, 3 wins for IMFC, 2 losses and 1 draw. If those games are anything to go by it should be an high scoring IMFC win as the past 3 home games have been 5-2, 8-3 and 7-3 wins to IMFC. Away from home last season was the 5-5 draw after being 5-3 up with 2 minutes to play. The two previous seasons saw 3-2 and 3-1 defeats. Lots of goals scored and lots conceded, i'm sure Andy P will want our defence to do better this time around! We also got beat in the final of the LuG tournament in Huddersfield against Hull, but the experience we gained helped push us on to Worldnet victory a couple of months later.

The squad this week is lacking a few regular faces with Captain Denti away on southern lady duties and Dan still on weekend courses to become a coach. After a brief return to the squad Copey is also missing, Chris has too much drinking and tax dodging at university to do and Jammer is working hard to feed the kids.

Squad

--------

1. Steve

2. Andy P

3. Yeard

4. JV

5. Duds

6. Paulell

7. Jebu

8. Lee (doubt)

9. Shark

10. Adis

11. Gilby

12. Scott

13. Gaz

14. Mike

The backline remains strong but will of course miss the presence of Denti. Yeard will be the favourite to take over the armband and will be looking to secure another clean sheet under his captaincy. Paul El, Jebu, Duds and Gilby can all play defensive roles but the number of defenders this week is slightly lower than usual.

In midfield, Lee is a doubt with a possible hernia operation on the horizon and will undergo a late fitness test in the Grists back garden under the watchful eye of his mother. This places a lot of responsibility on Gaz to perform and make the midfield tick with creative passing and hard tackling, his performances thus far this season prove hes up to any challenge.

Andy P has a lot of experience both in a wide role and in the centre of the midfield and our player manager will be looking to bolster the midfield where needed. Other possible centre midfielders include Jebu and Adis with the former more likely to entertain a wide role at some point in the game. Scott, JV and Adis are all capable of providing plenty of width and will run at the Hull full backs. With Hull particularly strong at centre back it could be the running at the wings that really turn the game in IMFC favour.

Up front Mr Burns will be looking to build on his good run of form in all circles of football in the past few weeks. The goals are back flowing and if the big man hits rich form he can be a one man game winner. If the team supply the ammo im sure the big man will be looking to notch a number of goals after amazingly drawing a blank against Hull when he played for Leicester a few weeks back.

Young Mike will want to continue to impress manager Andy Parker at some point in the game after notching a brace against Leicester in his debut. Jebu is also an option up front if needed notching goals against Mansfield and Barnsley from up top. JV too can be pushed forward if needed with his pace un settling to opposition defenders.

In the league IMFC slip one place since the last update to 7th despite remaining on a 100% record. This is primarily because Millwall once again matched our record with a 7-0 tonking of Bromley.

Hearts consolidated their position at 4th with a great 8-0 thrashing of Livingston. QPR continue to remain strong lurking in 8th place, just 1 point dropped and another comfortable victory 7-0 away to port vale. Preston beat crewe to go top of the league but surely that will be just a fleeting stay having lost 2 and drawn 5 already, the fact they have played 12 games means they top the table. Other close rivals and possible cup opponents Bury didn’t have a game so remain in 3rd having dropped just the 1 point.

We look forward to the visit of
Hull and once again it’s a shame we couldn’t host them on Hooton Lodge. However, we hope they enjoy the game down at herringthorpe.
