Internet Millers Beat Tiger Chat

The Manvers was an excellent surface to play the game on, much better than grass pitches at this time of year, so allowed for a good quality game of football to be played.

After a chat before the game, a suggestion by Skip prompted a new system to be tested. This saw Duds, Dan, and Dent play as a close back three, and Andy and Lee playing as wing backs. Steve and Gaz anchored the midfield, whilst Jammer played in behind the front two of Steve and Jebu.

In the first ten minutes the team struggled to fit into the new mould, and
Hull looked most lively. Thereafter though, people grew used to their roles, and from a defensive point of view I felt we developed a good understanding at the back. In other positions things seemed to come together also, with Andy and Lee doing superb jobs as wing backs – a hard position to play, and Jammer being given more freedom than usual to supply the front two.

The first goal for us came where Steve picked up the ball from a defensive header, and then beat three
Hull players with the same trick, and then placed to the Goalkeepers left.

Minutes later another goal came. Duds played the ball to Jebu who was deep, who then played a superb pass to put Jammer through. Jammer finished with ease.

We made it 3-0 where the familiar Jebu – Steve combination occurred again. Jebu played the ball through, and Steve was on hand to lob the goalkeeper that had come off his line.

Hull
got a goal back where the ball was given away in Midfield, and Hull broke quickly and scored.

Before half time it was made 4-1 with another Steve goal. Gaz picked the ball up in midfield and went on a run, beating the
Hull full back and crossing perfectly for Giraffe sized Steve to head home.

Half time:
Rotherham 4 – 1 Hull.

At half time changes were made to give some of the younger team members their chance.

The second half started as the first half finished, with the Internet Millers scoring two more goals.

The first of the two came where a ball crossed into the box was headed back by a
Hull defender, completely fooling his own defence, and the ball fell to Jebu at the back post to nod in.

To make it 6-1, Johnny, who was now playing right wing back, got forward and found space on the right. He was on the right hand corner of the box when he shot and lobbed the keeper. It was a cracking goal, but Johnny looked almost embarrassed to have scored!

At this stage
Hull then scored two goals to come back into the game. It was now 6-3 with ten minutes to go, so a re-shuffle was made reverting back to a 4-4-2 formation. We held our own, and then scored two more goals to make it 8-3 and finish Hull off.

The first of the two came where
Hull were caught on the break, and young Chris was played through to find himself 1 on 1 with the keeper from 18 yards. Chris placed coolly into the bottom corner to the keepers right. The final goal came where Steve-Giraffe headed home from a corner.

Overall a cracking 8-3 win for the Internet Millers against a good IFA side. The game can give the players confidence to take into upcoming games and Worldnet 2004.
