It was a massive match for the Internet Millers; it was a good chance to brush the disappointments of the Millwall game under the carpet, and also our visitors, Farnborough, had gone fifteen games unbeaten prior to this game.

Starting Formation and Tactics

With a strong squad of thirteen players it was easy to manage and ensure everyone got a good run out. It was decided that debutant Nick would start on the bench with a view to coming on for Steve who was carrying injury, and also Copey, who would come on into the back three after around a third of the match. Jebu was missing as he had inexcusably booked a holiday which clashed with the game, so Symon was to start up front.

Therefore the starting formation was: Shark in goal, a back three of Denti (sweeper), Duds, and Mark, a midfield (form left to right) of Andy, Steve R, Bash, Adis and Dan, and a front two of Steve and Symon.

It was decided that the central midfield three would all play a similar role in the centre of the park, as opposed to one playing in the ‘hole’.

First Half

There was a confidence about the Internet Millers from the start, and straight away some flowing football was played on the newly cut field. As a defender I felt confident on the ball, and there was a range of midfield options to play the easy ball to. There was some nice passing through midfield, and the front two were giving Farnborough something to think about straight away.

It wasn’t long before the first major chance fell to the Internet Millers, where Steve got put through, rounded the keeper, but from a tight angle he hit the post. The team grew in confidence, and it wasn’t long after Dan scored the opener.

Steve picked up the ball on the left, and squared to Bash, who moved the ball on and passed to Dan. Dan cut inside, and unleashed his beast in the direction of the goal. The goalie had no chance, and the ball dropped over him and into the goal. Dan celebrated with a couple of sidesteps. Perhaps if his chance against Millwall was further out then that would have dropped over the goalkeeper and into the goal (as opposed to going over!)

Almost straight after Steve scored the second, where he picked up from a poor goal kick, and volleyed towards the goal. The ball took and awkward bounce, and the goalkeeper fumbled into the goal. It was a soft goal to concede, but credit to Steve, because if you don’t get in the efforts on target then you are never gifted with the good luck.

Confidence soared throughout the team, and we were passing the ball around the best we ever had. It was a passing move that lead to the third goal, and after a good spell of possession the ball ended up with Symon, who crossed hard and low to find Steve, who put the ball to the keepers left and into the net.

It was the Symon – Steve combination for the fourth goal also. Symon played an accurate ball through to Steve, who chipped the oncoming goalkeeper. The ball hit the post and rebounded back, but Steve followed in to tap home.

Half time came and the Internet Millers reflected on an excellent half of passing football. The defence looked solid, the midfield passed the ball excellently and were always looking to receive the ball from the defence, and the Farnborough defence could not contain the IMFC strikers.
