Starting Formation and Tactics

The IM were to start with a 352 and remain in this formation throughout the entire game. With 4 defenders travelling up to
Huddersfield, all of which are primary central defenders it was the obvious choice coupled with the strength in midfield this week. Dave would start in the sweeper position with Duds and Dan just in front. In midfield Gaz Elliot would be the primary holding player alongside Steve R freeing Adis up to roam in the hole behind the front two. Out wide the quality and experience of Andy Parker returned to the left wing back position and the skilful Symon started out wide right. Up front Jebu and Burnsy spearheaded the attack for the Internet Millers keen on getting to 100 goals between them for the club.

First Half

The first half started brightly but for the opening 10 minutes the game remained 0-0. The first real chance fell to the Internet Millers after some nice interplay from midfield pushed a wide ball out to Jebu. He cut inside and played a neat one two with strike partner Burnsy, Jebu then hit a left foot curler that smashed against the underside of the crossbar and just failed to cross the line, the defenders cleared.

The Internet Millers then had half a scare as the
Huddersfield players forced a couple of corners but the defence stood firm and cleared.

The Internet Millers didn’t look back and went down the other end to make it 1-0 and settle all the players. What a great goal it was too! Adis broke down one of the wings and looped a cross into the box, the Huddersfield defender managed to somewhat head clear but the ball fell to the edge of the box where Andy P hit the ball on the volley into the bottom corner. A perfect example of how to score a volley, great technique and the keeper was left with no chance.

Not long after the Internet Millers should have been 2-0 up. A long ball was picked up by Jebu who swivelled and played in his strike partner with a cutting pass. Some neat control and flicks saw Burnsy clean through on the keeper but mistimed his shot and the keeper parried for a corner.

From the resultant corner it fell to Jebu who took on his chest, swivelled and hit on the turn, the keeper parried and it fell to Andy Parker just 5 yards out but somehow he blazed over the bar!

However, the pressure was starting to mount and it wasn’t much longer till the Internet Millers made it two nil. Jebu robbed the ball off the Huddersfield winger and skipped past the full back, after charging to the bar line he pulled back to Steve Burns about 8 yards out who neatly controlled and smashed into the bottom corner.

The two goal cushion calmed the entire Internet Millers team down and some neat passing interplay was flowing through the 5 man midfield. However, it was a defensive error that let Jebu get in behind the
Huddersfield back line and skip around the keeper, with just one defender on the line Jebu smashed the ball goalwards. The defender was rather unlucky as it struck the base of his arm and the referee gave a penalty, there was little the defender could do and I doubt he meant to do it and consequently we all ensured there was no red card. Regular penalty taker Gaz Elliot stepped up and smashed the ball into the corner to make it 3-0.

The midfield of Steve R and Gaz Elliot then had a few long range shots that blazed over the top of the
Huddersfield bar. Gaz Elliot was not to be denied his brace as Adis squared across for Gaz Elliot to run onto and smash the ball hard and low into the bottom corner. It was a sweet strike by Gaz to put the Millers 4-0 up.

With 5 minutes of the half to go Jebu got onto the score sheet. Some strong work by John2, who replaced Symon on the right wing got the ball to Burnsy who had taken up a wide position. Burns played a neat ball across the edge of the box to Jebu, the Huddersfield defender got too tight and Jebu rolled the defender, cut inside and skipped past another defender. He then shot hard and low into the bottom corner leaving the keeper no chance, to notch his first of the season and put the Millers 5-0 up.

Jebu could have nicked a second just before half time as he robbed the central defender and tried a cheeky lob but the pressure from the recovering defender was just enough and the chip went wide. The Millers went in at half time a satisfactory 5-0 up with a great chance of getting their biggest ever win,
