Wembley 11 years on- The fans remember

How old were you when we went to wembley?

I was just short of my 13th birthday so had been following the team for about 8 years.

What was your best memory watching Rotherham up until that day?

It's all a bit hazy but it would have to be one of the cup games. I'd say the Newcastle one at home where Dean Barrick score that free kick.

Describe your day?

We drove down on the morning of the game. The car was full and had a flag and scarf out of the window. We parked up nearby and I remember walking past Garth Crooks as we headed to Wembley Way. When we got there it was just full of Rotherham fans. I don't remember seeing any Shrewsbury fans.

We went in to the ground early and watched the various entertainment. I remember our celebrity team winning. The teams coming out and playing the national anthem is prominent in my mind but I don't remember much about the game at all unfortunately. I remember the noise though and looking through my binoculars all the time.

What is the best memory of the day?

It has to be winning! Although the game is a bit sparce in my head I remember the celebrations well. The team posed for the pictures just near where we were and all the flags and scarves was incredible. I also remember Shrewsbury's end being empty.

Memory that will always stay with you?

Wembley Way without a doubt. As we walked up and down that stretch before we went in to the ground it seemed like we bumped in to everyone we knew. The whole town must have been there! Half of them weren't Rotherham fans but no one cared. The fans are what made that day.

Wembley or Brentford?

Brentford. Wembley was great but Brentford meant more to us and it gave us a better feeling. Winning a football match when you don't expect it is a great feeling and when it means we win promotion. Even better.
