Wigan 20 Questions - Part 2

Last updated : 14 January 2005 By Denti
Who are you; where are you from and how long have you supported your club?

I'm John, from Wigan. I have been supporting Wigan Athletic for about 7 years.

What was your first game?

That was an FA Cup game awat at Ewood park. We got beat 4-2.

Describe the most memorable and worst game you've seen and why?

Ironically they both came in the space of about four days. On a Tuesday evening we put in the most fantastic performace gainst Stoke to beat them 6-1 at home. The following saturday we followed that up by getting beat 1-0 at home to Canvey Island in the FA Cup. That was a terrible, terrible day.

Who do you consider as your current local rivals, and why?

Probably Preston, they're in this division and they're local - simple.

Who are the best and worst players you have seen?

The best has got to be the Duke. Easily the best player that i've seen play for us.

Thats probably got to be Jeff Peron, a French winger who we signed from Pompey in the season that we reached the play-off final. He would make Ruud Van Nistleroy look like he had the balance of a tightrope walker.

Which current or former Rotherham player impressed you most?

Butler always had decent games against us for Reading. Jamel Campbell-Ryce looked impressive in the Rotherham - Leeds game on TV.

How did you fare last season?

Getting knocked out of the play-offs on the final day of the season was gutting. At the beginning of the season most would have been happy to stay up.

What's been happening since you beat us 2-0 at your place?

Lots of injuries and a couple of dodgy results. After winning the last two i think we might be getting back on track now.

How do you think you'll finish up this season?

As Champions

So what do you think of The Millers?

Rotherham are one of those teams that you cant fail to like / respect after what you've done, and managed to sustain, over the past 5 years or so.

Wigan's more of a Egg Chasing town, you must get frustrated with your crowds given that your pushing for the Premiership?

The crowds thing frustrates some people but i'm not one of them. The rugby actually dont get them many more than us one average, i think they were 1500 up on us last season, it seems however that the media seem to think that they sell out week in, week out.

At the moment we are the team with "no fans", if an extra 10,000 started turning up (as they might IF we go up) then we'll be the team supported by "glory hunters" so we really cant win either way.

Is your manager barking mad?

I think the Burnley fans are the ones to answer that after the recent Robbie Blake saga.

Are you happy with your Chairman/Backroom staff?

If it wasnt for Dave Whelan i wouldnt be traveling to Rotherham tomorrow. Instead it would probably be a local game against Chorley or Skelmersdale United.

Which team do you want to beat the most this season and why?

Probably Reading on the last day of the season, we NEVER beat Reading.

What sort of line-up can we expect from you?

It should be full strength. WE have no injury worries apart from Per Frandsen who has been out for months now.

WE should line up-

Filan
Baines
Thome
Jackson (or Brekin)
Eaden
McCullouch
Bullard
Whalley
Graham
Ellington
Roberts

New signing, Swedish international Andreas Johansson, is expected to travel but wont take part.

Predicted score?

2-0 to Wigan.

Who's going up?

Us and Sunderland automatically. Ipswich via play-offs

Who's going down?

Forest, Gillingham, Cardiff

Meat & Tatty, Beef n Onion or Chicken Balti?

I dont like pies ;)
