The Original 20Question - Brighton & Hove Albion

Last updated : 03 August 2006 By Bigrich.....
Hello there, Who are yer and how long have you supported Brighton?

Bob Gear, I am Sussex born & bred. Saw my first game on my 9th Birthday in 1968 at the Goldstone (RIP)

What made you support your club?
Like I said, Sussex born, there is no other League side in Gods own County!

Falmer
Whats the score with the new ground situation?
Jeez, what a saga!! Lewes DC (the adjacent council) are taking Prescott's decision to the High Court. This won't get heard until December, we probably won't get the decision til March! It's 10 years since we lost The Goldstone in April, there's a whole generation of Albion Fans out there who think football is played at Athletics tracks with Golf Stand for seats!!

Whats your favorite away ground and why?
Boleyn Ground, Upton Park. Nice tight traditional ground, decent home support. Though the away Support is fantastic when we're there!

See much of Des Lynham?
Yeah, he turns up occasionally, does the Falmer marches, and gives us the occasional mention on Countdown (how the mighty have fallen!)

You've always had a decent following at Millmoor considering the mileage! How many you bringing up?
I think you'll be surprised at our meagre support this time around, last time up we just managed to avoid relegation, I'd expect about 500 this time. We're a fickle lot sometimes, the football's not pretty at the moment.

Apart from Palace, any team you really dont like?
Orient at a stretch, but only 'cos we're not in the same Division as Palace this Season.

If Brighton was a Song, what would it be, and why?
No more heroes - The Stranglers
Apart from the obvious literal meaning from the Title! The Stranglers were big in the late 70s, early 80s, have had a few hits since then, but have fallen away a bit. They are still going though! just!

You've had your fair share of financial worries. What was your experiences and how did it work out?
Well we're about £12m in debt still and I guess our future as a Football Club is wholly dependant on getting a final YES for Falmer. The way we've got through it to this stage is with a Chairman who is first & foremost a fan having the backing of the vast majority of fans. That and lots of campaigning, letter writing etc., which, if nothing else, means that we (the fans) believe we are giving the Club the best chance of staying alive.

So hows your squad shaping up after the summer break, many coming and going?
Loads going. The only incoming was Alex Revell from Rymans League Champions Braintree Town. We lost Seb carole, our only creative midfielder, to Leeds. Paul McShane has gone back to ManUre after a season long loan, and we signed up about 10 of of our Youth Squad.

Was your Coca~Cola money spent well??
Yeah, Colin Kazim-Richards was the player we bought from Bury, he done allright in the Championship last Season, should do better this term, particularly if we can get hold of that elusive target man for him to play off.

Hows Mark McGhee going on down there??
jury's still out.

Realistic hopes of a return to the championship?
None!

Who's your strongest / Weakest link?
hard to say at the moment! for strongest I'll go with Alex Frutos on the left wing, he gets past people, has a decent cross & shot.

weakest? There's plenty of options there, probably centre midfield, we've been missing Charlie Oatway since he broke his ankle on Boxing Day.

Predicted Score?
You'll win, 2-0 maybe
