Coventry City's Twenty Questions

Last updated : 16 September 2004 By Bigrich.....
Who are you; where are you from and how long have you supported your club?
Kev Monks born and lived in Coventry for most of my 39 years. Started watching Coventry aged 5. I was Coventry fan of the year in 2003,have seen over 1500 first team games, 500 youth and reserves and close to 200 Ladies matches. I'm known for my penchant for away reserve team matches

What was your first game?
Aug 1970 - a 1-0 home defeat against Newcastle United.

Describe the most memorable and worst game you've seen and why?
Obviously the most memorable moment was the 1987 FA Cup Final run, beating Bolton,Manchester United,Stoke,Sheffield Wednesday and Leeds United en route to Wembley. Although I always enjoy any victories against Leicester and our annual pre-season games in Germany.

Who do you consider as your current local rivals, and why?
Coventry is strange in that it has two local rivals. Those on the East and South hate Leicester City, those from the West and North hate Aston Villa, although there are people who hate both.
I despise Leicester with such a passion that I will not have Walkers Crisps in the house and woe betide the Alliance and Leicestershit building society if they send me any invitations to take out an account with them.

Who are the best and worst players you have seen?
Best - Tommy Hutchison,Colin Stein,Terry Yorath,Bill Glazier and Stuart Pearce

Worst - Easily the worst was a trialist called Cleveland Brown who turned out in a reserve game. I'm sure he wandered in off the street. but we have had so many bad players in our time it's unreal. David Jones the current Wolves boss was pretty useless during his time at Highfield Road.

Mike Pollitt
Which current or former Rotherham player impressed you most?
I do rate your keeper Mike Pollitt as one of the best in the division. How he has not been snapped up by a Premiership club continues to amaze me.

How did you fare last season?
We finished in mid table last season. After Gary McAllister had to make a mass clear out the season before, there was no pressure on the team.

How do you think you'll do this season?
I'm going for mid-table as I think all the teams in this division are pretty much the same standard.

What's the local drink and snap?
The pubs around the ground are not particularly brilliant and you are best heading for the city centre, although watch out for the police trying to round you up and escort you to the ground. Gosford Street (ten minutes walk from ground towards the City centre) has some very good curry houses. The Monsoon is highly recommended and there is a good Chinese restaurant which does an excellent buffet for a tenner are also worth checking out.

If Coventry were a TV personality, who would it be and why?
John Leslie - someone a bit dubiouis who used to be famous.

So what do you think of Rotherham?
In media terms,Rotherham are the same as Coventry in that Coventry's local media is Birmingham dominated and yours is Sheffield dominated. Rotherham,I've always found is a friendly place.
You can have a laugh and a joke with the stewards and both sets of fans mix very well. I know quite a few Coventry supporters are best mates with Millers fans.

Is your manager barking mad?
He must be for taking on the job. We have a despot of a Chairman, debts of £23m plus and no money to spend on players. Mind you,by the time the game is played,Peter Reid could be manager of Blackburn Rovers.

Are you happy with your Chairman/Backroom staff?
The Coventry Chairman has been underfire for the last couple of years. We blame him for his part in the club at one stage having £60m+ debts. We would love to get rid of the entire board but they have covered their tracks well.

Which team do you want to beat the most this season and why?
Leicester without a doubt. Every City supporter is well up for those two games.

What sort of line-up can we expect from you?
Shearer,Carey,Staunton,,Leacock,Shaw,Hughes, Doyle,Sherwood, Wood,John,Morrell SNU Steele,Whing Suffo,Johnson Gudjonsson won't be far off the time barring injuries.

Predicted score?
0-0

Who's going up?
Ipswich,Leeds,Wolves

Who's going down?

QPR,Crewe,Brighton
