20Questions - Scunthorpe Utd

Last updated : 16 February 2007 By Bigrich.....

Hello there, Who are yer and how long have you supported Scunny?
Northampton_Iron, been supporting since 1994

What made you support your club?

My Dad supported them and he took me to my first match at home to Lincoln in 94 when I was 8

Whats your favourite away day and why?

Forest has happy memories for our great wins their in the last couple of years, and trips to Yeovil have always resulted in exciting games and crazy scorelines.

Whats your proudest moment following the Iron?

Promotion at Wembley in 1999 was pretty special, as was coming second in League 2 04/05. The trip to Chelsea that year and leading for twenty minutes was a really proud moment also.

And your most embarassing / disappointing?

Towards the end of the 2003/04 season we were on the verge of the Conference and travelled to Huddersfield who were pushing for promotion. We were 2-1 up going into injury time, and they were down to ten men. Somehow we lost 3-2 with 2 goals in less than two minutes, and in the car home it was the first time I contemplated that we could be relegated.

Who's your greatest rival, Donny, Hull or even Grimsby? and why?
Grimsby used to be punching above their weight in The Championship while we struggled to make the play-offs in league 2. Luckily our rise coincided with their demise, and we stayed in League 2 just enough to take vital points of them on our way to League One. I went to their play-off defeat to Cheltenham last year, and enjoyed every minute of it.

If Scunny was a Song, what would it be, and why?

Whos your all time favorite player, and why??

Chris Hope. Was a true leader on the pitch, and was always being linked with a move to a higher level and better things. When he eventually left he held our record consecutive appearances (180ish) and had spent 8 years with us. A true gent and a rock in the centre of defence.

So, with the loss of the manager and Andy Keogh, missing them??

Laws never, but with Keogh its too early to tell. The 2 games without him we havent, and Beckford seems to have struck up a partnership with Sharp already.

Laws or Adkins?

Adkins. His enthusiasm is refreshing after a manager who would blame anything except himself for awful displays.

Billy Sharp, off in the summer??

If we go up hopefully not, if we don't definitely.

Assuming you go up (and your looking good to be in the mix) do you think you could compete on and off the pitch??

Its hard to say. If you look at the 3 promoted teams last season, the smallest (Colchester) is doing the best. Realistically we would be punching above our weight, but if you have someone who can put the ball in the back of the net, which Sharp will almost certainly be capable of, we have half a chance. Off the pitch, we will never be able to compete with wage demands, but a couple of good signings could see us safe.

Whats all this with it being pay on the day this Saturday, theres going to be chaos..?
Another off the pitch problem. The ticketing etc. at the club is poor, and PR often seems non existent. 5,000 average for a team challenging promotion is disappointing.

One player from this division you would like in your team, and why?
The best player I have seen this season is Mark Bunn at Northampton, but as I'm perfectly happy with Murph in goal it can't be him. Steve Brooker holds the ball up well for Bristol City, and although they were poor against us, Kris Commons has put in some excellent displays for Forest this season.

Who's your strongest / Weakest link?
Best player has to be Sharp, but also Cleveland Taylor lays a few goals on a plate for him. Steve Foster and Joe Murphy are the reason behind our numerous clean sheets. Steve Torpey is the weak link, but he's injured on Saturday :)

Predicted Line-up?
Murphy
Byrne, Foster, Crosby, Williams/Ridley
Taylor, Hinds, Goodwin, Hurst
Sharp, Beckford

Predicted Score?
2-0, in a hardfought win. Our pitch is terrible at the moment, so doesn't make pretty football easy.

Whos going up??

Oldham and us. Bristol City in the Play-offs

And who's going down?

Sorry guys, but Rotherham, Orient, Brentford and Northampton.

And finally. Steak & Kidney, Meat & Tatty or Balti??

Balti every time
