20Questions - Grantham Town

Last updated : 13 July 2006 By Deano
1. Who are you; where are you from and how long have you supported your

club? Andy Sutton, Grantham 20 years watching the Gingerbreads

2. What was your first game? Sometime during the 1985/86 season, don't know what game it was

3. Describe the most memorable game you've seen and why? Most memorable for me was beating our then promotion rivals Ilkeston Town 6-0 on a Tuesday night in March 1998

4. Who do you consider as your current local rivals, and why? Obviously our County rivals, Lincoln, B*ston, Gainsborough and so on, but also some obscure. Dorchester following a relegation battle some years ago (which we lost) then a couple of years later winning a promotion race against them. Despite being over 200 miles away !!! we consider ourselves rivals but also friends.

5. Who are the best and worst players you have seen? Personally my all-time favourite player has to be Gary Jones, who scored 14 goals in 16 games before being sold. Great player, in a very average side at the time.

6. How did you fare last season? Mid-table obscurity AGAIN !!!

7. So whats your outlook for the coming season? Promotion push (I'd hope, if not then another boring mid-table season with a short sojourn in the Cups.

8. If Grantham were a TV personality, who would it be and why? Jimmy Saville, big in the 1970's, everyone knew his name, now languishing in a nursing home, making the occasional spot in the limelight.

9. Non-League clubs seem to have the best welcome for following fans, who's your favorite club and why? Anyone who is willing to travel to 90% of a clubs games over the season gets my respect, no glory in watching a mid-table clash in March with nothing to play for.

Gaffer: Lee Glover
10. Lee Glover, former Miller! Is he still playing a bit and how is he as a
manager? Tough one that, can have a good game but then ruin it by moaning for 10 minutes !!! As a manager I think this is a real make-or-break season for him, a serious promotion push is a must in my opinion, if not it can
only be seen as another 'failed' season

11. If you could compare yourself with a League club who would it be and why? Wimbledon, once both Southern Premier rivals, they made it to the top flight, we didn't !!! However we could soon meet again

12. Has your team changed much since last season? Not as yet, still looks (on paper) as we haven't played yet, a very ordinary side, waiting for a bit of glamour to arrive

13. Who's your star player? Personally I think Ian Robinson, made a big
difference to the side at the end of last season when he arrived, if he can
remain fit this season, he will walk away with the honours (and a
championship medal I hope)

14. Dreams of getting into the league? Of course, but I'm not sure how much of a change to our 'routine' football league status would give us, but the
ultimate aim is to be the best, so we have to aim high. Conference North
next season will do me for now !!!

15. Can you get excited over friendly games? If we can pull a decent gate, then yes. I'd love a couple of 1000+ pre-season friendlies each season, but we've not really had one for 10 years !!

16. Thoughts on Rotherham United and what do you know about us? I know times have been hard for Rotherham, but Grantham have them harder !!! No memories of ever seeing the Millers play, so all I do know is what I have used on the clubs official website www.thegingerbreads.co.uk and the Rotherham page. Plenty of club connections and one FA Cup result which gripes me, despite having not been born at the time !!!

17. Football with the lads or night out with the missus? Footy wins hands down, Saturday's has been Grantham for far too long for anything to change overnight.

18. Whats the best watering hole for us Millers in the town? As a supporter I must say the SOCIAL CLUB @ THE GROUND (as we want/need your money) as a drinker I'd say there aren't too many bad pubs in town, Nobody's Inn (near Asda) will give you a decent pint. Generally Town fans can be found scattered all-over the place on a match day.

19. Lager or Smooth? Lager

20. And finally, Meat & Tatty, Steak and Kidley or Chicken Balti?!
Yes please, can I have chips with that as well !!!

MillersMAD thanks Andy for being a good sport and wishes Grantham all the best for the coming domestic season.
