20questions - Donny Rovers

Last updated : 14 September 2006 By Bigrich.....
Hello there, Who are yer and how long have you supported Doncaster Rovers?

I'm Donny Dog, the Rovers' match-day mascot and also have another alias as the fans' elected director, (plus other jobs! ).I've supported Rovers for 47 years.

What made you support your club?
It's the only club in Yorkshire........isn't it?? .....Dad, have you been lying to me......?

Whats your favorite away ground and why?
This week, Millmoor, 'cos that's where we'll get this week's three points from. Seriously, the KFC for a nice ground, the Britannia for what we achieved there (when we won promotion back to the League, as if you didn't know).

Whats your proudest moment being a Donny Fan?
Being in the row of all the players at the Britannia Stadium (as Donny Dog) when the guest of honour was shaking hands pre-match, and for the national anthem. Also having my own personal Rovers' flag flying over the stadium (because Rovers didn't have one of their own!).

And your most embarassing / disappointing?
1997-8. 'Nuff said.

So who is your main rival?
Do you need to ask???

If Donny was a Song, what would it be, and why?
Championes, championes, ole, ole, ole...
It's the most suitable for next May.

Whos your all time favorite player, and why?
Colin Douglas, all heart, second highest ever number of games, could drink for England (even though he was Scottish), ran through brick walls for the club, once played for Rotherham (errr, perhaps not the last one).

Realistic hopes for the season?
Play offs, possibly automatic promotion if the new manager can get his methods across quickly enough to keep us in touch.....and we sign Hayter in January.

The new grounds looking alright, is it on time??
Yes, it will be handed over to the Stadium Management Company on 11 December, will be officially opened on 17 December, and we will play our first match against Huddersfield on 1 January. You will then officially have the undisputed shittest ground in League 1.

Forte, he was'nt all that [good?] for us, whats he like for you??
First spell, excellent in a central striker role; second spell, iffy mostly in a wide left role; third spell, seems to have completely lost interest in either position. Time he went back. (Seem to recall him scoring a great goal against us once though!).

What you make with the Dave Penney saga?
To quote him "he'd taken the club as far as he could". Who am I to argue with that?

Happy with O'Driscoll?
Early days (only spoken to him twice, and only one game in charge) but I'm very impressed so far. Unusually quiet (and I mean quiet!) for a football type, but comes over as intelligent, astute, excellent football brain, encyclopeadic football knowledge, master tactician. If only half of it gets through to the players we're on a winner.

Who's your strongest / Weakest link?
Currently, strongest is Coppinger, weakest Forte.

Predicted Line-up?
Hmm, new manager, just finding his feet, big squad.....so, a guess, Butz, Roberts (G), Lee, Robert (S), O'Connor, Price or Nelthorpe, Stock, Green, Coppinger, Guy, Heffernan. If Forte plays, I'll eat Donny Dog's head in front of the Tivoli End.

Predicted Score?
2:1 to Rovers.

Whos going up??
Us and Forest automatic, plus one unexpected late runner, could be Rotherham....(sorry, it's not fair making fun of the afflicted!).

EITHER OR??
Fortune-West or Forte?
Fortune-West from three year's ago. Or even now, come to think of it.

Rotherham or Barnsley??
This is where I chuckle and refuse to choose.

Meat & Tatty or Steak n Kidney?
Steak & Kidney. Except at Millmoor, then it's neither (dysentery risk and all that).
