20Questions - Carlisle part 2

Last updated : 01 November 2006 By Bigrich.....
Who are yer and how long have you supported Carlisle?
I'm Tim, widely known as piglet_phoenix on the footymad boards. Have supported the Blues all my life but first had my season ticket for my seat in 1983.

What made you support your club?
Its in my blood. My Great Grandfather signed for the club in 1906 (from Lancaster Town, he'd also played for Swindon), and am the fourth straigh generation of my family to support the Blues. My own Father didn't indoctrinate me though, he let me find my own way.

Whats your favorite away day and why?
Wembley no question. After sticking by the club through crowds of 1,500 and what seemed a terminal decline through 3 divisions over a ten year period, seeing the team run out in front of 76,000 (27,000 from Carlisle) at Wembley was one of the most emotional experiences of my life. We were the better side that day as well.

Whats your proudest moment being a Carlisle Fan?
Giving n*wcastle (waddle, keegan, beadsley mcdermott et al) a thumping on boxing day 1983.

And your most embarassing / disappointing
Playing in the conference. We are too big for the conference.

So who is your main rival?
Personally Brian Laws. Carlisle United's biggest rival? Divisionally this season its Blackpool, but I don't really care about them really. Over the years we've had healthy rivalry with Preston Burnley and Blackburn, mostly because their fans always seem to want to fight us for some reason (but still say they don't care). Sunderland are also a big rival, Middlesboro (altho we haven't played them for god knows how long). But the closest club to us and the only team I truly hate are n*wcastle. Due to our geographical position we often come up with rivalries you may find a bit surreal. I'd consider Leyton Orient a derby match and definitely Lincoln City. Rotherham is the closest League One club to my house - so you are my derby this season.

Isnt Grenta chairman Brookes Mileson a Carlisle fan, has he invested into you??
He's not a Carlisle fan, he's a poneytailed makem tw*t who tried to destroy the club. Yes he put some money in while we were in the conference BUT he also encouraged the supporters trust to contest the former sale of the club in the high court. If they'd won the action he club could've been liquidated, but thankfully they lost. We must be the only club where the majority of supporters are opposed to the Supporters Trust.

If Carlisle was a Song, what would it be, and why?
Sex Machine - by James Brown (if you've ever lived in Carlisle you'll know why)

Whos your all time favorite player, and why?
Jimmy McConnell, his goalscoring record speaks for itself.

Are you missing Michael Bridges?
No.

Big noises were made by Karl Hawley last season, hows he playing this season?
Yes, he sometimes makes a sound like an elephant when he scores. He keeps improving, and if he stays fit will score more goals than hopkins this season.

What was your aim for the season, and has that changed after the decent start?
My aim was to lose about a stone, get a better job and to make a start on my novel. I haven't started well to be fair.

If we end up at the end of the season with a better squad than at the start then thats fine. I expected us to challenge for playoffs, if we don't I'll be disappointed.

Swindon Town away in the FA Cup, happy?
Yes, the rules of the cup dictate that we always get a tough away draw in rounds one and two, so we all expected something like this. In fact two of my mates predicted the exact draw. At least we'll be prepared.

One player from this division you would like in your team, and why?
keiran westwood; yo, his brother tim is a radio one dj and he's the best keeper in league one by a street.

Worried about losing any players come the January sales?
Nah, Hawley might go, but we're not a one man team.

Who's your strongest / Weakest link?
Kev Gray is probs our strongest player, you wouldn't mess with him. The weakest link has to be Chris Lumsdon coz he has Anne Robinson's hair and takes our all too predictable corners.

Predicted Line-up?
Cutler
Worrell
Mills
Hurst
Murdoch
Partridge
Williams
Keane
S Goodwin
Facey
Hopkins

Predicted Score?
3-0 home win

Whos going up??
Forest, Bristol City and Carlisle United

And finally. Steak & Kidney, Meat & Tatty or Balti??
Roast puffin stuffed with artichokes.
