We ground the result out - Knill

An obviously please Millers boss, gave his thoughts to Radio Sheffield after the game.

"I thought we ground out a result in what was a tough game. Tranmere are a big strong team and you have to keep going against them. We competed and i thought our second half performance was pretty good and we could have won by more."

Although the game was'nt particulary dirty, it had its nasty moments, the first was when John Mullin got a slap resulting in a bloody nose in the first half.

"I didnt see much of it, it was over the other side of the pitch and I didnt know who it was, John then came off and his nose was bloodied he said the lad had caught him but the ref didnt see it so you just get on with it."

Moving onto the Keane bust up, which saw him and Tranmere's Jackson seeing red cards. "I just saw that the ball broke between their centre half and Keano and Keanos gone down to pick the ball up, Jacko's pulled him and all of a sudden theres 6 players involved. The ref must have seen something, he said to me that Jackons pulled him arouund the face and Keanos retalliated, I'll read his report and take it from there."

Asked what can be done about Keano's temper Knill gave the stark reality for Keane, "We've everything to curb his temper, but its really up to Keano, he misses more football than he plays at the moment. If he wants to continue having a career then he has to stop himself, the red mist cannot keep comign down everytime somebody kicks or pushes him."

"He has to use his football ability, which he has quiet a lot of to get the better of people. I'm dissapointed because hes a big player for us and when he plays well the team normally plays well. But now we have to look to others in the squad. I am tired of talking about it and he really does have to sort himself out otherwise his football career will stop as people wont take a chance on him."

During the game, the Millers missed yet another penalty. Lee Williamson's spot kick was soft and at a nice hight for the keeper who saved.

"I'ts another penalty miss, but when he put it down, I felt confident that he was going to score, he practises everyday. I think it was a pretty good save but I have to say he was excellent second half, the miss might have stirred him a little, but he was all over the pitch winning headers making tackles and passing the ball really well. Him and Quinny second half were back to what we think they can do."

Martin Butler came off the bench and made an impact on the game, scoring his 8th goal of the season and had a hand in the Millers second from Paul Shaw. Tactically brilliant, Knill joked. "I had no choice really, we was 10-15 minutes into the second half and had just missed the penalty and you think here we go again. Butt's came on. He was in good form before he was out of the team. He came on and pushed Jonno on the right and Butt's and Shaw down the middle and virtually stright away Butt's gets onto something."

Yesterday was Jonathan Forte's last game for the Millers having being recalled by Colin a week early, "I'm sad to lose Jonno, hes been excellent and got better while hes been here. Thats good for us, its good for me as a coach when you see players get better when they work and learn. I'm sad but I know that Butt's is there waiting."

"We cannot worry about the position, all we can do is win games and today against a tough team we've won 2-0 and probably a convincing 2-0 our keepers had nothing to do."

Speaking about the switch of keepers from Gary Montgomery to Neil Cutler, Knill said. "I just thought I needed a change, I'll back all my players. I spoke to Gary and explained my reasons and now its upto Cutt's to stay in goal."
