Raynor and Evans - Oxford reaction

Raynor took matchday charge for the fourth time this season as Evans sat out Saturdays win once again due to his six game stadium ban.

Both gave their thoughts over the weekend, firstly Raynor on the lads performance.

He told themillers.co.uk: “We were a little bit slow to start, conceding a very poor goal by our standards, as we switched off on the edge of the box and were punished. It was very imaginative from the corner kick but it should have been defended better because it put us on the back foot.

“There was a real response, we kept plugging away and we knew if we kept going, because they’re on a bad run of results, their chins would hit the floor and we could go on to win the game. It was important we got back in the game, we got level and then it was important that we started the second half on the front foot. I’m delighted with the three points,” Raynor added.

After watching a live screening of the game, Evans explained:  "When Michael O'Connor equalised from the penalty spot I had no doubt then that we would go on and win the match.

"From the start of the second-half until the end some of our football was outstanding. On another day we could have had five or six goals but great credit must go to the Oxford United goalkeeper Wayne Brown and his defenders who prevented that from happening.

"Our second goal was a joy to watch and involved a superb sweeping passing move involving Pringle, Arnason, Hunt, Ainsworth and Odejayi before Michael O'Connor finished superbly.

"Scott Shearer made a great save a few minutes from the end but had Oxford United finished this match level it would have been a travesty as we dominated, but the big man did his job and from that Lionel Ainsworth, in my opinion having his best game for us, set up a chance for Jason Taylor to tap into an empty net in front of our fantastic supporters.

"Our performance was full of endeavour, quality and desire, those ingredients are needed to win football matches at every level."
