Robins, appointed as boss yesterday afternoon, watched his side make heavy work of the first period but dominate the second as Marc Newsham's late header kept their survival hopes hanging by a thread.

Of the game, the new gaffer spoke of his delight in the post match press conference.

He explained: "It's a great result. We started well first half and we got the goal but we then conceded two poor goals from our point of view. To be fair after half time we came out and gave it everything, we played in the right areas and got our just rewards.

"All credit to the players for giving me that performance in the second half which is what I am after.

"The second Gillingham goal was a poor goal from our point of view, but second half we gave it everything and you cannot ask for more than that.

"Chris O'Grady and Delroy Facey are putting together a good partnership, I prefer to see them in the penalty area a bit more and Michael Keane coming back into midfield gave us something different which I was pleased with.

"I am delighted for Marc Newsham and that was just what he needed. He has been doing all the right things, getting into the right areas. He has shown a lot of patience and it just shows he can do it and there will be plenty more from him, that I am sure.

"Michael Keane has come in and done exceptionally well, he has been short of match fitness; I could not put him in before because his fitness was down and since I have been in charge he has worked hard, he played well in the reserves the other night and he justified his place.

"I will be thinking about the Forest game overnight, it's going to be a bumper crowd of over 30,000, we will have a look at it tomorrow and prepare for the game. They lost today to Millwall so it shows that they are beatable, it will be about on the day who can hold their nerve, if we get chances we will stick them in the net.

"They are a dangerous side with some good players so we will have to be on our toes."
