McLaren - We're favourites for a reason

McLaren, who turned down a new contract with League One side Tranmere Rovers after being named their player of the season last term, is setting his sights on automatic promotion, somthing that the bookies have backed with their early season odds.

The former Rotherham man will team up with former Millers target Chris Brandon at the heart of City's midfield, and explained to the Telegraph & Argus that things are geared up for a title challenge.

He said: "We are one of the favourites to go up and you've got to deal with it. The manager (Stuart McCall) thinks we can win promotion and i've come here to do that.

"We're a big scalp in this division, this is a massive ground for League Two and teams will think it's a big day to come here and will want to take our scalp."

McCall's men sit at 4/1 for promotion in the early betting, along with the Millers and newly relegated Gillingham.
