The 32-year spent just one season at Shrewsbury Town making 31 starts before being released by Paul Simpson.

Murdock, a Northern Ireland international, left Millmoor in 2007 after being deemed surplus to requirements by new boss Mark Robins. He endured a turbulent time with the club making just 45 starts in two years and spending much of the time injured.

Meanwhile, former defender Robbie Stockdale has joined Grimsby Town. The former Middlesbrough man was released by Tranmere after two seasons at Prenton Park.

Stockdale, who also made just 45 starts for the Millers, was signed permanently in 2004 following a successful loan spell before being shipped out to Hull City early in 2005. He was signed, for the second time by Ronnie Moore, at Tranmere in 2006.

The Scottish international joins fellow ex-Millers Gary Montogomery and Martin Butler in Cleethorpes and has signed until 2010.
