Byfield set for Millwall exit

Byfield, who left Millmoor in February 2004, is under contract at The Den and scored 16 goals last season. However, he has publicly stated his desire to move closer to his West Midlands home and his omission from the team photo and Saturday's friendly against Sierra Leone has thrown his future in to doubt.

Millwall are hoping that Byfield will have a change of heart and chairman Stewart Till told Millwall's official site: "From our point of view the door certainly isn't closed on Darren and if after consideration he comes back to us and convinces Willie (Donachie) that he is totally committed to playing for us then we would welcome that. In the meantime discussions are ongoing with the player and his representative."

Byfield, who's girlfriend is popstar Jamelia, joined the Millers in March 2001 and scored two vital goals that helped secure the club's Division One status. He went on to score 23 goals in 58 starts before joining Sunderland in a move that saw Michael Proctor head the other way.
