Two Review - March 5th

Last updated : 05 March 2009 By Deano
Brentford maintained their grip on the leadership of League Two, while condemning Grimsby Town to their 9th defeat in front of their own fans with a 1-0 win at Blundell Park. MacDonald netted the only goal of the game in the 27th minute. The result also saw Grimsby Town slip in to the relegation zone as results elsewhere went against them. Grimsby Town 23rd, Brentford 1st.

Wycombe Wanderers slipped back to second place in the table following a 2-0 win over hapless Chester City at Adams Park. Phillips in the 26th minute, and Pittman in the 66th minute condemned City to their 12th defeat on the road this season. Wycombe Wanderers 2nd, Chester City 21st.

Rochdale slipped to their 5th defeat on the road with a 2-1 reverse against Barnet at Underhill. O'Flynn gave the Bees a 42nd minute lead, with Mc Evilly levelling on the stroke of half time. Just as the game seemed to be heading for a draw, Bolasie popped up with a 90th minute winner. The result keeps Barnet's heads above water and the relegation zone at arms length. Barnet 20th, Rochdale 3rd.

Bury went down to a surprise home defeat at Gigg Lane against Chesterfield. The 2-1 win for the Spirites keeps their slim play-off ambitions alive for now. Downes (2nd minute) and Lester (40th minute) gave the visitors a 2-0 lead at half time. A Bishop penalty in the 60th minute wasn't enough for the home side as they slipped to their 5th home defeat of the season. Bury 4th, Chesterfield 11th.

A solitary Forman goal in the 60th minute gave Bradford City victory over Macclesfield at Valley Parade. Bradford City 5th, Macclesfield 16th.

They might have spent a fortune on players back in the Summer, Shrewsbury Town are hardly setting League Two alight, being held 1-1 by Exeter City at the New Meadow. A Holt penalty gave the Shrews a 51st minute lead, only for Stewart to level for the Grecians in the 83rd minute. Shrewsbury Town 8th, Exeter City 6th.

Dagenham & Redbridge seem to run out of steam for the moment, going down to a 3-0 home defeat against Lincoln City at Victoria Road. Brown in the 44th minute, Elding (84th minute) and Kovacs (87th minute) ensured that the points were heading north. Dagenham & Redbridge 9th, Lincoln City 12th.

Darlington clawed back some of their 10-point deduction at The Arena with a 1-0 win over Notts County. Hulbert scored the only goal of the game in the 5th minute. Darlington 10th, Notts County 15th.

AFC Bournemouth have, for the moment, climbed out of the relegation zone, having occupied 23rd for most of the season. A 2-0 win over Aldershot Town at Dena Court, coupled with Grimsby loosing, ensured that the Cherries are out of the drop zone. Hollands gave the Cherries a 39th minute, whcih was added to by Fletcher in the 56th minute. AFC Bournemouth 22nd, Aldershot Town 14th.

Luton Town's plight is looking a little forlorn at the bottom. With just 13 matches left, they have a 14-point deficit to make up. A 0-0 draw against Gillingham at Kenilworth Road didn't help the cause. Luton Town 24th, Gillingham 7th.

The games involving Rotherham United (18th)/Morecambe (13th) and Accrington Stanley (19th)/Port Vale (17th) were called off due to the weather.
