Yeovil Town
got proceedings underway on Friday night with a blistering first half display in front of the TV cameras at Huish Park against Huddersfield Town. Morris got Yeovil off to a flyer in the 4th minute with the first goal, which was followed by a strike from Best in the 23rd minute. An inevitable own goal from Hardy from a pass defenders hate in the 36th minute effectively wrapped the game up. To their credit, Huddersfield Town battled back in the second period and snatched what proved to be a excellent consolation as Taylor-Fletcher neatly chipped the keeper from outside the area in the 50th minute. A string of half chances came and went to no avail for the Yorkshire side. Yeovil Town 5th, Huddersfield Town 16th.

Tranmere Rovers failed to take advantage of the fact that many of their play-off rivals were in Cup action as they left it late to claim a point against struggling Northampton Town at Prenton Park. McGleish put the visitors ahead in the 11th minute, only to see Mullin equalise in the 87th minute to deny Northampton Town a vital 3-points. Tranmere Rovers 7th, Northampton Town 18th.

Mid-table Port Vale and Bradford City managed to see out a 1-0 win for the visiting side from Yorkshire at Vale Park. The only goal came from Schumacher in the 54th minute. Port Vale 11th, Bradford City 12th.

The only other game in League One came at Dean Court and was played in dreadful weather conditions. Anderton scored the only goal of the game, from a 42nd minute free kick as AFC Bournemouth climbed out of the bottom 4, recording back to back wins, leaving Brentford rooted to the bottom some 7 points away from safety. AFC Bournemouth 19th, Brentford 24th.

Cheltenham Town (23rd) and Scunthorpe United (1st) had their match postponed due to a waterlogged Whaddon Road pitch.
