League One Round-Up - 24th December

In their last match at Belle Vue, Doncaster Rovers dented the title aspirations of Nottingham Forest who went down to their 2nd away defeat of the season. Streete scored the winner in the 60th minute to secure a memorable win. Doncaster Rovers 10th, Nottingham Forest 1st.

The gap at the top is now just 2-points as Scunthorpe United resumed the chase. They managed a 0-1 away win (their 7th of the season) over hapless Millwall at the New Den in their Friday night fixture. The winner came from Torpey in the 74th minute. Millwall 23rd, Scunthorpe United 2nd.

Bristol City were dumped back in to a play off place as they battled back to salvage a point against Cheltenham Town at Whaddon Road. O'Leary and Bird struck in the 36th and 38th minute to give the home side a half time lead. Orr pulled one back in the 53rd minute. McCombe left it until the 90th minute to salvage a point with a 90th minute equaliser. Cheltenham Town 21st, Bristol City 3rd.

Oldham Athletic cemented their claim to a play-off place with a convincing 3-0 home win over Northampton Town at Boundary Park. McDonald gave the home side the lead in the 22nd minute, which was added to by Porter in the 37th minute. Liddell made sure of the points in the 61st minute. Oldham Athletic 4th, Northampton Town 19th.

Rotherham United MUST have thought that they had done enough to claim a win over Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium as Bopp gave them the lead in the 56th minute. They were denied by an Akinfenwa equaliser in the 90th minute. Swansea City 5th, Rotherham United 20th.

Tranmere Rovers slipped to their 2nd home defeat of the season as Gillingham claimed their 2nd away win at Prenton Park. It all started so well for the home side too as Greenacre and Shuker fired Rovers in to the lead with goals in the 2nd and 5th minutes. This spurred the Gills in to a fight back which saw them pull one back and then equalise through Mulligan in the 11th and 19th minute. The winner for the Gills came 3 minutes before the break when Chorley netted for the Kent side! Tranmere Rovers 6th, Gillingham 13th.

Blackpool are closing in a play-off place! Their latest conquest came at the expense of hapless AFC Bournemouth at Dean Court in a convincing 3-1 away win! Parker netted a brace early in the 2nd half (47th and 52nd mins) as the Cherries collapsed which saw Anderton seeing red in the 69th minute! Gillett gave the Cherries hope in the 82nd minute before any hope of an unlikely comeabck was snuffed out by Fox in the 88th minute. AFC Bournemouth 22nd, Blackpool 7th.

Port Vale claimed a home win over Brighton & Hove Albion at Vale Park. Constantine netted a brace, one from the penalty spot in the 13th and 23rd minutes. A consolation for the travelling faithful from Sussex came from Fraser in the 84th minute. Port Vale 9th, Brighton & Hove Albion 12th.

The result at Brunton Park went to form as Carlisle United scored a 2-0 home win over struggling Brentford. Deadly Derek Holmes gave the home side the lead in the 69th minute, with the win secured in the 74th minute through McDermott. Carlisle United 11th, Brentford 24th.

Leyton Orient have suddenly found some form as they climb away from the relegation scrap! This time they secured a further point against Crewe Alexandra at Brisbane Road. Lockwood converted a 47th minute penalty, after Maynard gave the visitors the lead in the 30th minute. Leyton Orient 18th, Crewe Alexandra 15th.

Finally, Yeovil Town (8th) v Bradford City (14th) and Chesterfield (16th) v Huddersfield Town (17th) all produced 0-0 draws!
