League 1 Round-Up

After 3 matches, Port Vale lead the way with a 100% record, which they maintained with a 1-0 away win over Cheltenham Town at Whaddon Road. The only goal of the game came from Constantine in the 54th minute. The result also ended Cheltenham's 100% start to the season. Cheltenham Town 8th, Port Vale 1st.

Nottingham Forest also maintained their 100% start to the new season, their opponents being Northampton Town at Sixfields. The only goal came courtesy of a Doig own goal on the stroke of half time. Northampton Town 20th, Nottingham Forest 2nd.

Chesterfield maintained their impressive goal scoring start to the season. This time Millwall being the hapless victims at the Recreation Ground. Hall gave the home side the lead in the 12th minute, which was added to by Allison in the 24th minute and further added to by Folan in the 31st minute. it didn't get too much better after the re start for Millwall as Hall added his second in the 50th minute, and Allison netted his second in the 64th minute. A consolation came from Braniff in the 71st minute. Chesterfield 3rd, Millwall 22nd.

Brighton gave themselves a great chance for all three points at Withdean against Brentford as the home side raced in to a 2-0 lead in the opening 12 minutes thanks to a Hammond penalty (9 mins), and Hart (12 mins). The visitors pulled one back in the 37th minute through O'Connor, and claimed a point in the 90th minute through Moore. Brighton & Hove Albion 5th, Brentford 4th.

Huddersfield Town maintained their 100% home record with a 2-1 win over Bristol City at the Galpharm Stadium. City took the lead through Jevons in the 48th minute, but Beckett (63 mins) and Abbott (89 mins) snatched the points for the Yorkshire side. Huddersfield Town 6th, Bristol City 14th.

Bradford City managed to turn the game round against Gillingham at Valley Parade. Gillingham flew in to a 0-2 lead through Bentley (5th min) and Flynn (13th min) and were looking good before half time when Bower snatched a goal in the 42nd minute. The second half was a different story as Windass levelled for the home side on the hour mark, and then gave them the lead in the 81st minute. The comeback was complete when Johnson rounded off the scoring in the 90th minute. Bradford City 7th, Gillingham 16th.

Leyton Orient left it late to claim the points against AFC Bournemouth at Brisbane Road. Alexander gave the the home side the lead in the 27th minute from a header. After the break Hayter levelled in the 57th minute, which was surprisingly added to by Cooke in the 62nd minute. Heart break for the Cherries though as Steele bags a brace with goals in the 67th and 92nd minutes to keep the points in the east end. Leyton Orient 9th, AFC Bournemouth 21st.

Yeovil Town secured their win before half time at Huish against Carlisle United. Cohen opened the scoring for the home side in the 15th minute. That was cancelled out by Gall in the 22nd, but the lead was restored by Welsh in the 41st minute. Yeovil Town 10th, Carlisle United 12th.

Oldham Athletic claimed their first home win of the campaign with a useful 3-points against Swansea City at Boundary Park. The only goal of the game came from Molango in the 66th minute. Oldham Athletic 15th, Swansea City 19th.

Scunthorpe United and Crewe Alexandra battled out a 2-2 draw at Glanford Park. Rodgers gave the visitors the lead from a 29th minute penalty, but that was cancelled out by a Sharp equaliser in the 38th minute. Crewe restored their lead 3 minutes after the restart through Vaughan, but that lead didn't last as Crosby levelled from the penalty spot for the home side in the 65th minute. Scunthorpe United 17th, Crewe Alexandra 18th.
Rotherham United chalked up their first win of the season, but still remain bottom of League One with a points tally of -7! Their win came at Bloomfield Road against Blackpool who saw Hoskins claim the only goal of the game in the 77th minute. Blackpool 23rd, Rotherham United 24th.

The final game in League One saw Doncaster Rovers (11th) and Tranmere Rovers (13th) battle out a 0-0 draw at Belle Vue.
