Chesterfield go top of League One by virtue of the fact they had the biggest away win in the division. The unlucky side to have the heaviest home defeat was AFC Bournemouth! The scoring did not get underway until the 2nd period when Niven (47), Larkin (62) and Shaw (95) made sure of the points for the Spirites. AFC Bournemouth 22nd, Chesterfield 1st!
Port Vale also struck a 3-0 opening day win, at home against promotion new boys, Leyton Orient at Vale Park. Constantine gave the home side the lead in the 42nd minute. Then 2 quick goals in the 71st and the 77th, from Constantine and Sodje respectively gave Vale a very neat start to the new campaign. Port Vale 2nd, Leyton Orient 23rd.

New boys Cheltenham Town also got themselves off to a winning start as well. This time with a fine 2-1 away win over Swansea City. Odejayi got the ball rolling for Town in the 47th minute with McCann doubling the lead in the 53rd minute. Knight pulled one back in the 76th minute. Swansea City 16th, Cheltenham Town 3rd.

Gillingham got their League One campaign off to a good start with a 2-1 home win over Huddersfield Town. Jarvis and McDonald (56 & 66 respectively), sealed the win before Taylor-Fletcher scored a consolation with 10 minutes to go. Gillingham 4th, Huddersfield Town 15th.

Brentford left it until the 73rd minute when Skulason popped up for the only goal of the game against Blackpool. Brentford 5th, Blackpool 17th.

Relegated Brighton started as they mean to continue with their yo-yo existence as they started with a 1-0 away win over Rotherham United. The only goal of the game coning from Revell in hte 42nd minute. Rotherham United 24th, Brighton & Hove Albion 6th.

Bristol City, playing Scunthorpe United at Ashton Gate, left it until the 68th minute when Showunmi scored the winner for the home side. Bristol City 7th, Scunthorpe United 21st.

On their return to League One, Carlisle United only had to wait 3 minutes for their winner agains Doncaster Rovers, which was scored by Murray. Carlisle United 8th, Doncaster Rovers 19th.

Nottingham Forest fans didn't have to wait too long either for their winner. That came through Bennett in the 9th minute of the game against Bradford City. Nottingham Forest 9th, Bradofrd City 18th.

The remaining side to have won their opening day fixture was Tranmere Rovers who notched a 1-0 home win over Oldham Athletic. Greenacre got the only goal in the 23rd minute. Tranmere Rovers 10th, Oldham Athletic 20th.

Crewe Alexandra and Northampton Town shared the points at Gresty Road. Lowe game the home side the lead in the 6th minute. That was cancelled out by McGleish in the 11th for the visitors. Vaughan restored the home sides lead in the 18th minute, but that was cancelled out by Kirk in the 41st minute. Crewe Alexandra 11th, Northampton Town 12th.

Millwall and Yeovil Town had to settle for a share of the points as well. Gray had given the Somerset side the lead in the 34th minute, but that was cancelled out with 9 minutes to go when Byfield levelled for the home side. Millwall 13th, Yeovil Town 14th.
