Youth setup given lifeline

There were fears that the Millers youth setup could stop getting after concerns that the clubs financial crisis could put paid to the club also putting their funding into the project.

But at last Fridays meeting the Football League and FA agreed to carry on putting their funding in after the clubs administrator Jeremy Bleazard agreed to sign a Deed of Trust which guarantees that any external funding from the FA & FL are used on nothing else but youth development.

Chief operating officer Paul Douglas told todays Advertiser; "We are particularly keen to keep the youth programme and the Centre of Excellence because developing young players is so important and because it is attractive to any potential purchasers of the club."

"It is important to remember that the youth programme only has a future as long as the football club does and at the moment that is until the beginning of May."

"But, for me, one of the most important reasons for Rotherham United surviving is the 150 kids who use the Centre of Excellence. It gives them life habits, keeps them off the streets and enables them to live the dream of becoming a professional footballer."
