Worrell looks back at Millmoor career

The defender, who has been the target of sometimes unwarrented critism over the last couple of years spoke like he knew he was off come the end of the season.

"Looking back, there has been a hell of lot squeezed into my time here. When I first came, I was speaking to Mick Harford and he was so positive. I was familiar with him from my time at Plymouth because we'd had a real ding-dong battle with his club, Luton, when we both got promoted together from the third division."

"He was very ambitious and positive and was talking about taking Rotherham straight back up. For one reason or another that didn't happen and we had a bad run and he went. Alan Knill took over, kept us up, had a poor run and left, so this season has panned out the same." he added

"I must say, I had two promotions with Plymouth but staying up on the last day of the season last year felt just as good. After all we'd gone through, it was like we'd won the league."

"You've got to be honest with yourself. I know I've been inconsistent this year, and a lot of the lads would say the same, When the team's form dipped, my form dipped as well, and I'm honest enough to admit that." he said.

"But I feel that since I got back in the team my form has been OK. As you get the confidence back, you get a little bit more positive to get down the wing and overlap."

"I'm one of those people who, when things aren't going well, play a little bit within myself and that's a fault I've had over my whole career."

David then admitted that he might not be offered new terms at Millmoor, "It's not going to be up to me. It's going to be up to the new manager. I'm open to anything. It's my livelihood. Despite everything, I've enjoyed my two years here and I've played a lot of games."

"Obviously it could have been a little bit better in terms of league positions but I'm open-minded and I've got to keep my options open."

Despite the uncertain future, Worrell said that the team and himself had to keep striving to play well and hopefully aavoid the drop.

"Until it's mathematically impossible that we can't stay up then we've got to keep going, Once that time passes, it's got to be personal pride that takes you to the end." he added.
