‘We were pretty average all over the pitch today, I think there were chances at both ends of the pitch and they (Exeter) took advantage from some sloppy defending at the back stick to get the goal while we didn’t take advantage of good chances we had. But I think a defeat is harsh but we’ll have to live with it on a long journey home." Evans told Radio Sheffield.
‘It’s a hard fixture coming to Exeter on the first day of the season but you have to come here and you can’t come here and miss four chances in the last ten minutes of the game. You can’t be heading over from four yards, you can’t be shooting over from eight yards, you can’t be putting a header wide from the middle of the goal. Good teams take those chances."
"Our players gave absolutely everything for the cause. We had effort, commitment and passion and a fantastic travelling support who tried to help us. But you can’t give a bad goal away and take that as a reaction to start playing with a real purpose.
‘We will have to learn from today and learn from it quickly and we’ll take the defeat and move on.’
