We live within our means - Tony

Tony's seen the club on it's knees when he came in and took charge. He's now put in place a new stadium which can bring in new revenue streams into the club and he's intent on bringing promotion to it in the not too distant future, but he say's he will run the club with common sense.

“We are trying to have a well run club that can afford to invest in the players that will take it up the ladder to success. Most clubs live beyond their means, you read about it every day. Everybody wants to buy a Ferrari footballer. In life people say they can't afford a Ferrari but in football people get the Ferrari and find out that they can't afford it." he told the Tiser

“Even though a wind of change is coming in and the Football League is trying to control spending, we see where clubs have suffered and are suffering and if it is not controlled it is the chairman and board versus the manager. I think the open dialogue you must have between the board and the manager doesn't just involve the board understanding the manager but the manager understanding the board and realising the club must live within its means. That's the template that has been set out by Rotherham United.”

He went on to praise Steve Evans for working with him; “I have always supported my managers but I have a special relationship with this one. I'm now living the game of football and experiencing it and am involved in a day-by-day rapport with him giving me information I have never had before. “It is very rare we miss a day without speaking. Like all managers, he has to be looking for players all the time, but with Steve Evans I also have more of a partner in a business."

“The dynamics of football mean action has to be taken very quickly and you don't sit about waiting to make decisions. They have to be made but you try to run it as a business and control cost.”

With units and land still available to develop around New York the chairman spoke of the partnership with Rotherham Council; “We have worked with Rotherham Borough Council so far and will still to make sure the money streams are in place to enable the club to fulfil its ambitions. It is quite clear that the higher you get up the leagues, the more investment is needed. In terms of developing the stadium site, it is still early days to make sure the money streams are there to make that journey more possible.”
