We fell below our standards - Evans

The Millers missed the chance to go above Preston into fourth place, but have no game this weekend with the boss vowing to work his squad hard on the training ground ahead of next Tuesdays trip to Oldham.

Evans told The Star: “I had strong words because it was not good enough and some of the performances, particularly first half from some individuals, were unacceptable.

“They are harsh words but if people think they have a god given right to just turn up and think things will go alright then they now know they can’t and might find out next Tuesday they might not be playing.

“We weren’t on the front foot and you can’t decide to turn up after 50 minutes and then try to turn it on. You have to earn the right to win by playing for 90 minutes.”

Evans was also criticial of the home sides playing surface which led to a lack of quality in the final third from both sides.

He added. “They (Colchester) have had problems with the weather as we saw here a few weeks ago but it’s not worthy of League One and not conducive to how we play but it's the same for both sides.”
