The 23 year old midfielder currently on loan from Middlesborough has been on an unbeaten run since his move to the Millers, and telling the Advertiser today, “It's nice to be seen as an unsung hero, I'm not a defender so I don't get the plaudits for clean sheets and I'm not a goal scorer so I don't get the plaudits for scoring the goals but it's good to be seen working hard in the engine room. If I can get some assists and a few goals alongside my name along the way, all the better." he said.

“It's a team game. You all work together and you've all got individual jobs and if we all do them then we're going to get results here because here we're a good, solid team.”

Despite being on a good run of form, Smallwood say's the gaffers open to change the team around; “The manager will have no qualms putting people in if he needs them, There's a lot of games coming up and there will be changes along the way with tiredness and injuries and suspensions of whatever. We've a couple of injuries at the minute and when they're back we'll have even more quality."

"Normally, the top sides and the ones that go up through the play-offs have that quality in depth and that's what we've got.” he added.
