Tony explains Jackett departure

"I think there's been a lot of pontification on why he went but what really happened was I got a call about half-past six on Saturday with Kenny saying 'I've achieved one point out of fifteen and I don't think that's very good are you going to sack me'. 'I said no, I'm not going to sack you, I said the other day if you lost the next seven games we're in for the long term, and he said 'well I ought to resign' and I asked him to sleep on it and  ring me in the morning and if we need a meeting we'll have a meeting."

"I did get a call in the morning and we had a meeting at my house at 10 am. I got Paul Douglas to come to the 10am meeting. Kenny arrived in his car and before I could make a cup of tea Kenny said I'm resigning. I said, 'well Kenny you're fifty-four and you've slept on it, we'd like you to stay, but if you've made your mind up, you know your mind then that's it."

"What followed then was we had to make sure the contracts were in place, he can't go into another job because technically he'd be in breach of contract and technically we can do things legally but we aren't that type of club to do things. He can't go and be another manager for six months. If he's in breach of that the club will get big compensation for that."

"We had a fantastic meeting on the Thursday before the Leeds game. We've been working for the last three months on getting a recruitment guy and we've done that but he's working for a big club at the moment and has to hand his notice in but will be arriving in January. We'd listed ten of every position in the club because we want options and there were already a couple of strikers and defenders that Paul Douglas was moving forward to get them on board. So everything was positive."

"Shock and surprise describes the Sunday morning. I just couldn't believe it. For me it was shocking. Too many times clubs get accused of sacking managers too soon with fans saying you didnt give the manager a chance and so on well this is the other side of the coin and this is a manager that wants to leave after 5 games, he'd got 1 point from 15 and he did go on about that, did he feel that he wasnt going to get many points out of the next few games and believe he'd be in a tighter spot? I don't know but we know is that he'd made his mind up that after five games he'd not made an impact and in his books he saw it as failure."

"There was nothing on the table saying he couldnt get any players, that just didnt happen. It was all positive about lining players up, no talk of saying no you cant have him or that player." Tony said when asked about the rumours of a small transfer budget for the January window.
